[en] The authors present a progress report on the design and construction of the Brazilian synchrotron light source facility, which is based on a 1.15 GeV (nominal energy) electron storage ring. To date, the first part of the LINAC injector (50 MeV) has been completed and is in operation. Prototypes for all the ring main components - magnets, vacuum chambers, kickers and septa, power supplies, control system, beam position monitors, RF cavity - have been developed in-house and characterized. An update of the production of these components, which is already under way, is presented here. A report will be given on the experience acquired with laser cutting technique for the production of laminated magnets, pioneered by LNLS

[en] Acceleration cycle studies of the LNLS 1.15 GeV UVX electron storage ring are described. Since this ring will initially be injected at low energies (100 MeV), questions related to the behavior of beam lifetime during the ramping period (about 10 s), especially at the lowest energies, are crucial for the successful operation of the machine. In this work, the authors present results of Touschek lifetimes, due to single and multiple scattering effects, compared with damping times at various energies. They show that these effects should not lead to appreciable stored current losses

[en] The initial project of LNLS contemplated the construction of a 2 GeV electron storage ring to be dedicated to the production of synchrotron light. A recent revision of the project involves the construction of a 1.15 GeV electron storage ring as a first step. This paper discusses to what extent this modification may affect the planning for the construction of experimental work-stations and related instrumentation. The addition of wiggler insertions was decided upon so as to maintain most of the scientific planning elaborated for the initial LNLS project. (author)
