AbstractAbstract
[en] 'Completely characterized' events in the 40Ca + 40Ca system at 35 MeV/u are compared to the predictions of several models including the QMD calculation which treats the entire reaction on a microscopic basis. Comparisons of various experimental observables; will be connected with results of several other experiments and conclusions will be drawn regarding the de-excitation mechanism of this system

AbstractAbstract
[en] Simple diagrams based on the relative location of the effective barriers of direct channels are shown to select known resonant heavy-ion collisions. Other systems are predicted to exhibit a resonant behaviour, mainly 16O + 32S, 28Si + 32S and 28Si + 40Ca. (orig.)

AbstractAbstract
[en] The effective α-nucleus real and imaginary potentials are calculated with several α-nucleon interactions previously determined. The folding model potential is shown to be a good approximation for the real potential. The imaginary potential is, for energies larger than 40-50 MeV, expressed in terms of the local and non-local one-body densities. An application to α scattering on 40Ca is discussed

AbstractAbstract
[en] The Taylor expansion procedure introduced by Apagyi and Scheid (1983 J. Phys. G: Nucl. Phys. 9 73) for localization of nonlocal potentials has been re-examined and improved to include third-order corrections. The method has been applied to the real part of the nonlocal potential describing n-40Ca scattering. Comparison with exact results and investigation of phase shifts show that inclusion of second-order correction terms may be sufficient to obtain a quick assessment of the local space effect of the underlying nonlocal potential. AbstractAbstract
[en] This paper describes present capabilities of the new Target Preparation Laboratory constructed at Horia Hulubei National Institute for Physics and Nuclear Engineering, Bucharest-Magurele, Romania. Self-supporting or backed targets are produced in the laboratory, using thermal evaporation, electron-gun evaporation, sputtering or cold rolling techniques. At present, it is possible to prepare layers with a wide range of thicknesses from several tens of μg/cm2 to several hundreds of mg/cm2. As an example, we briefly describe a 40Ca target preparation. AbstractAbstract
[en] A measurement of the photon asymmetry (αγ) in radiative muon capture RMC on 40Ca has been carried out at TRIUMF. Negative muons were stopped in a 40Ca target and the resulting RMC photons were then converted by a 5-cm thick NaI detector placed immediately in front of our main NaI detector, a cylindrical crystal of diameter 46 cm and depth 51 cm. The data sample consisted of 5200 high-energy (57 MeV< Eγ<95 MeV) RMC photon candidates. Our measured value for the energy-averaged photon asymmetry is αγ=1.00±0.23. The extracted values for the induced pseudoscalar coupling constant (gP) based on this photon asymmetry measurement are gP/gA<8.0, utilizing the impulse approximation IA model, and gP/gA<14.5 in terms of the modified impulse approximation (MIA) model. The two extracted values, although both consistent with the Goldberger-Treiman value of gP/gA≅7, are considerably different, indicating a significant theoretical model dependency

AbstractAbstract
[en] A preliminary analysis of some proton elastic angular distribution and polarization data on 40Ca in the energy range 15 to 40 MeV is reported which supports presence of a real surface-peaked term in the potential as predicted by the dispersion relation for the equivalent local optical model potential. AbstractAbstract
[en] The effects of meson exchange currents are taken into account for the first time consistently in radiative muon capture (RMC) by complex nuclei. Photon spectra and ratios of the photon spectra and the RMC rate to the rate of ordinary muon capture (OMC) by the nucleus 40Ca are calculated. It is shown that the most reliable information on the renormalization of the induced pseudoscalar form factor in nuclei can be obtained in the study of partial transitions in RMC
