AbstractAbstract
[en] New measurements for lifetimes of excited 0+ and 2+ levels in 120Xe following β decay of 120Cs isomers are reported. From these data, E0 and E2 transition rates are derived which exceed values calculated from models assuming only a limited valence nucleon space. The observed collectivity can be described by the inclusion of additional valence protons associated with particle-hole intruder configurations involving the πg9/2 orbital. copyright 1996 The American Physical Society

AbstractAbstract
[en] Absolute EO and E2 transition rates have been measured for the O3+ state in 120Xe. The O3+ state appears to be weakly mixed with the normal structure of 120Xe. In the N = 66 mid-neutron-shell region, this is the heaviest even-even nucleus showing a signature of shape coexistence. (author)

AbstractAbstract
[en] We have measured the half-life of 120Xe using a high-purity germanium (HPGe) detector to monitor the 176, 178, and 762 keV γ rays from 120Xe β+ decay. The result, 46±0.6 min, differs significantly from the value 40±1 min reported by Andersson et al. [Ark. Fys. 28, 37 (1964)]. We have also measured the half-lives of 120Cs and 120I to be 60±0.7 s and 82.1±0.6 min, respectively, both of which are consistent with previous measurements

AbstractAbstract
[en] Techniques have been developed for on-line collection and transfer to a measurement cell of rare noble gas isotopes. A low-energy isotope separator beam is stopped in a foil. After collection, the foil is heated, and the noble gas atoms are cryopumped to a cold finger and then transferred with a buffer gas to a measurement cell. This has been tested with 120Xe produced from a 120Cs beam at the TRIUMF ISAC facility, and greater than 40% efficiency for transfer from the foil to the cell has been demonstrated. The technique will be used for electric dipole moment measurements with radon isotopes and may also be useful for other measurements with gaseous targets including laser spectroscopy

AbstractAbstract
[en] Pairing and deformation self consistent total routhian surface type calculations with different residual interactions in the particle-particle channel are presented. Calculations involving a separable pairing force of monopole plus quadrupole type are compared to those where a contact force (δ force) is used. The calculations were performed for the superdeformed band 192 Hg and different rotational bands in 120 Cs, 133 Nd and 135 Sm to demonstrate the superiority of state dependent over seniority pairing. AbstractAbstract
[en] β decay endpoint energy measurements of the neutron deficient cesium isotopes were done using an energy spectrum shape fitting technique. This was a departure from the typical method of endpoint energy analysis, the Fermi-Kurie plot. A discussion of the shape fitting procedure and its improved features are discussed. These β endpoint measurements have led to total decay energies (Q/sub EC) of the neutron deficient /sup 119-123/Cs isotopes. The total decay energies of /sup 122m/Cs (Q/sub EC/ = 6.95 +/- 0.25 MeV) and 119Cs (Q/sub EC/ = 6.26 +/- 0.29 MeV) were new measurements. The total decay energies of 123Cs (Q/sub EC/ = 4.05 +/- 0.18 MeV), /sup 122g/Cs (Q/sub EC/ = 7.05 +/- 0.18 MeV),121Cs (Q/sub EC/ = 5.21 +/- 0.22 MeV), and 120Cs (Q/sub EC/ = 7.38 +/- 0.23 MeV) were measurements with significantly improved uncertainties as compared to the literature. Further, a combination of the energy levels derived from previous literature γ-γ coincident measurements and the experimental β-coincident γ decay energies has supported an improved level scheme for 121Xe and the proposal of three new energy levels in 119Xe. Comparison of the experimental cesium mass excesses with both the literature and theoretical predicted values showed general agreement except for 120Cs. This isotope displayed a deviation of approx.800 keV in both comparisons with the experimental value. Possible explanations for this deviation are discussed
