AbstractAbstract
[en] Chronic administration of Dianabol did not prevent the radiation-induced changes of oxidative phosphorylation in rat liver mitochondria. Irradiation of rats with X-rays, in a dose of 600 R for the whole body, causes damage of oxidative phosphorylation in rat liver mitochondria. Progressive reduction of oxygen consumption, decrease of high-energy bond formation and a drop of the P/O coefficient were observed in irradiated animals. The presumable role of the postirradiation damage of oxidative phosphorylation and the effects of radioprotective compounds on this process are discussed. (orig.)

[en] Dianabol administered p.o. in the dose of 1.0 mg/kg during 10 days before irradiation had no radioprotective effect in the fractionated irradiation (5 x 150 R). Distinct radioprotection, however, was exerted by the DMSO, Trasylol and Trichlorfon (30 mg/kg) administration. (orig.)

(orig.)Primary Subject

AbstractAbstract
[en] Studies were made on the radioprotective effect of Dianabol using two different modes of irradiation. It was found, that Dianabol did not have any effect on the dynamics of the survival of the rats irradiated daily with the dose of 75 and 150 R (up to the time of their death). By limited fractionated irradiation (5 x 150 R) Dianabol had a slight protective effect in the survival estimation. This was found to increase by using Trasylol. (author)
