[en] The XH13C-NMR spectrum of dithizone, unlike that of its oxygen analogue, shows five different kinds of carbon atoms. The results can be rationalized by consideration of a single symmetrical structure for dithizone in solution

AbstractAbstract
[en] Colorimetric sensors were usually used to detect specific metal ions using selective color change of solutions. While almost organic dye in colorimetric sensors detected single molecule, dithizone (DTZ) solution could be separately detected above 5 kinds of heavy metal ions by the change of clear color. Namely, DTZ could be used as multicolorimetric sensors. However, DTZ was generally used as aqueous type and paper/pellet-type DTZ was not reported yet. Therefore, in this work, polystyrene (PS) was prepared to composite with DTZ and then DTZ/PS pellet was obtained, which was used to selectively detect 10 kinds of heavy metal ions. When 10 ppm of Hg and Co ions was exposed in DTZ/PS pellets, clear color change was revealed. It is noted that DTZ/PS pellet could be used in detecting of heavy metal ion as dry type

[en] A method for determining mercury(Hg) in reprocessing process was investigated with separation by dithizone extraction and determination by cold atomic fluorescence spectrometry. The separating condition and instrument operating condition were optimized. The recovery of Hg is from 93% to 112%. (authors)

AbstractAbstract
[en] The radiochemical analysis consists in that from the solution of the substance to be determined in radioactive form a series of samples is taken having different volumes and one sample is taken containing xi-times greater quantity than is the fixed amount of substance y1 in the taken series, i.e., xiy1. The series of samples is isotopically diluted with constant amounts of non-radioactive substance x to be determined thereby yielding series αy1+x, with different isotope dilution. To each sample is added the same amount of separation reagent, e.g., dithizone, all samples are completed to the same volume, the reaction products are separated and their radioactivity measured. A curve is plotted from the obtained values. The curve expresses the dependence of the product of relative amount α and the frequency ratio of separated products from the isotopically non-diluted sample and from the isotopically diluted series of samples i=Asub(xi)/Asub(α) on the relative amount of substance α being determined. From its intersection with straight line αi=xi it is possible to determine either the fixed amount of radioactive substance y1 or the constant amount of non-radioactive substance x, or their ratio according to the relation x/y1=xi-αsub(xi). AbstractAbstract
[en] Dithizone reacts with ruthenium(VIII or VI) at 20deg C, with inert ruthenium(IV)-complexes at 85deg C, to form a primary 1 : 3-dithizonate, which can by concentrated (20 fould) by extraction into chloroform. Based on this ractions, three variants of a reproducible and selective photometric determination of ruthenium traces (5 ppb) with dithizone has been developed. (Author)
