AbstractAbstract
[en] Activation cross-sections for the "1"5"6Dy(n,2n) "1"5"5Dy and "1"5"8Dy(n,2n)"1"5"7"m"+"gDy reactions with low-abundance target isotopes ("1"5"6Dy:0.056 %, "1"5"8Dy:0.095 %) were measured by means of the activation technique and a coaxial HPGe c-ray detector at 13.5 and 14.8 MeV. Theoretical excitation functions were calculated using the nuclear-reaction codes EMPIRE-3.2 Malta and TALYS-1.6 with default parameters, at neutron energies varying from the reaction threshold to 20 MeV. The results were discussed and compared with some corresponding values found in the literature, with the evaluation data in ENDF/B-VII.1, JENDF-4.0, and JEFF-3.2 libraries, and with the estimates obtained from a published empirical formula based on the statistical model. AbstractAbstract
[en] First measured cross section data on (γ, n) reaction of dysprosium proton-rich nuclei "1"5"6Dy and "1"5"8Dy was experimentally determined via activation methods using a bremsstrahlung photons beam delivered by an electron medical accelerator. An integrated cross section of 144±44 mb is calculated for the "1"5"6Dy (γ, n) reaction at the energy interval 9.4-14 MeV while for the "1"5"8Dy (γ, n) reaction at the energy interval 9.1-14 MeV is estimated as 168±42 mb. Moreover, theoretical calculations have been performed for all Dy isotopes employing the TALYS code. The effect of the nuclear-physics input parameters (γ-ray strength function, nuclear level densities) on the cross section calculations has been studied to successfully reproduce the experimental data. The effective cross section estimated using the TALYS code ranges between 115 and 206 mb for "1"5"6Dy (γ, n) and between 124 and 206mb for "1"5"8Dy (γ, n) reaction depending on the γ-ray strength function used. Activation cross sections for the generation of long-lived radionuclides of importance in fusion reactor technology. Texts of papers presented at the third and final research coordination meeting1996
AbstractAbstract
[en] We use the ALICE code to calculate excitation functions for the 63Cu (n,p) 63Ni, 94Mo (n,p), 94Zr, 158Dy (n,p) 158Tb, and 159Tb (n,2n) 158Tb reactions. The example of the 159Tb (n,2n) excitation function folded over a calculated t(1H, 3He)n neutron spectrum for nominal 10 MeV neutrons is used to discuss differences between calculated and experimental results, in particular for incident energies near reaction thresholds. The importance of an accurate knowledge of the incident neutron spectrum in this regime is emphasized. (author). 7 refs, 1 fig., 5 tabs

AbstractAbstract
[en] The cross-sections for the 158Dy(n,p)158Tb, 156Dy(n,α)153Gd and 160Dy(n,p)160Tb reactions induced by 14.7 MeV neutrons were measured in this work and calculated by a previously developed formula. Measurements were corrected for gamma-ray attenuations, random coincidence (pile-up), dead time and fluctuation of neutron flux. Nuclear model calculations using the code HFTT, which employs the Hauser-Feshbach (statistical model) and exciton model (precompound effects) formalisms, were undertaken to describe the formation of the products.

AbstractAbstract
[en] The level structure of 156Dy has been investigated with the (p,t) reaction at Esub(p)=29.9 MeV. A strong (7.7% of ground-state strength) transition is observed to a state at 1520 keV, assigned Jsup(π)=2+. It is suggested that this state is the two-phonon βγ-vibration predicted by the theory of Davydov. Possible connections to the 'super-band' in 156Dy are discussed. (Auth.)
