AbstractAbstract
[en] Several types of measurements and equipment were reviewed for the Can MC and A design basis. The measurements and equipment selected were included in the draft System Design Description. Based on the SDD review, the original gamma measurement equipment was changed from a CZT based system to a HPGE system. The current design includes dry calorimeters, HPGE gamma detection system, and scales. This document will briefly discuss the selection of each instrument

AbstractAbstract
[en] The UTD/UCLA collaboration is developing and testing a high resolution large area gamma ray telescope to be employed in space for studying diffuse and point like sources of cosmic gamma rays in the 1 MeV to 20 GeV energy range. The major objectives of this program are (1) the study of new point like sources of MeV and GeV gamma rays, (2) observation of characteristic angular variations in the diffuse gamma rays to identify their primary origin, (3) search for gammas from the decay and annihilation of cold dark matter particles, (4) search for gamma bursts from exotic objects, and (5) search for a massive black hole in the center of our galaxy. AbstractAbstract
[en] The invention has been aimed at protecting the gamma detector of a wall thickness gage used for measurements at hot pipes against damage and destruction. This could be achieved by applying a silicate shield and arranging the detector in such a way that it can be cooled by water of distinct pressure

AbstractAbstract
[en] A device model for multi-layer graphene nano-ribbons tera-hertz detector is presented. To investigate the device characteristics, we analyze the source-drain current as a function of incident energy and derive the analytical formulas for detector responsivity. In addition, the dependences of detector responsivity on the back gate voltage as well as on the substrate thickness, temperature and energy gap are discussed. It is shown that the detector characteristics can be effectively modulated by these parameters. Compared with single layer graphene nano-ribbons, multiple nano-ribbons layers can greatly enhance the source-drain current, achieving higher detector responsivity and sensitivity. (authors)

AbstractAbstract
[en] The device includes a rod articulated at the upper end, on the shovel dredger with a pendular motion in a vertical plane. At the lower end is fixed a radiation detector with a determined solid angle coverage. The rod and the shovel can be placed in a reproducible way in a mutual position such as the ore in the shovel fill a substantial part of the solid angle of the detector

AbstractAbstract
[en] Originally selected as a neutron star (NS) candidate in the ROSAT All-Sky Survey, 1RXS J141256.0+792204 ('Calvera') was discovered to be a 59 ms X-ray pulsar in a pair of XMM-Newton observations by Zane et al. Surprisingly, their claimed detection of this pulsar in Fermi γ-ray data requires no period derivative, severely restricting its dipole magnetic field strength, spin-down luminosity, and distance to small values. This implies that the cooling age of Calvera is much younger than its characteristic spin-down age. If so, it could be a mildly recycled pulsar, or the first 'orphaned' central compact object (CCO). Here we show that the published Fermi ephemeris fails to align the pulse phases of the two X-ray observations with each other, which indicates that the Fermi detection is almost certainly spurious. Analysis of additional Fermi data also does not confirm the γ-ray detection. This leaves the spin-down rate of Calvera less constrained, and its place among the families of NSs uncertain. It could still be either an ordinary pulsar, a mildly recycled pulsar, or an orphaned CCO.

AbstractAbstract
[en] A probe is described which uses the p-n junction of the silicon gate photodiode 1PP75 for the detection of corpuscular (electron) and photon ionizing radiations. The basic parameters are given of the photodiode and the design of the detection probe. This probe together with electrometer MEK 100 and x-y plotter BAK 4T permits the speedy assessment of the studied radiation. Basic measurement was carried out using a beam of 6 to 40 MeV electrons from a 42 MeV betatron and the 60Co gamma radiation. (J.B.)

AbstractAbstract
[en] To establish the reason for flotation of sulfide minerals in the absence of any conventional collector, internal reflection spectroscopic analysis (IRS) of their surfaces was conducted. sulfur, sulfates, thiosulfates, and hydrocarbonates have been detected on the surface of as-grand sulfide minerals. On sodium sulfide-treated surfaces, both sulfur and polysulfide have also been found to be present. From these findings, the flotation of sulfide minerals without collectors is discussed.
