AbstractAbstract
[en] Nuclei in the Pt region have been found to be well-described in the O(6) limit of the IBM. As an extension of the IBM, it has been suggested that the quartet of nuclei (194Pt, 195Pt, 195Au, 196Au) forms a supersymmetric multiplet, with all members being described by a single Hamiltonian. Much data exists for the Pt isotopes however, the Au isotopes are not well-studied. We have recently conducted in-beam γ-ray and conversion electron spectroscopic studies of 195Au using the 196Pt(p,2n) and natIr(α,2n) reactions at beam energies of 16 and 26 MeV, respectively. The experiments were performed at the University of Notre Dame FN tandem facility with the University of Pittsburgh γ-ray detector array. and a liquid nitrogen cooled mini-orange electron spectrometer from the Pitt ICEBall array. γ-ray angular distributions, coincidences, and directional correlations, as well as conversion coefficients are currently being analyzed. The results will be presented and comparisons made with IBFM predictions

AbstractAbstract
[en] A previously reported theory for quantitative cerebral blood flow measurements using intravenously injected nondiffusible radiotracers has been applied on patients after stroke and on volunteers undergoing a mental stimulation exercise. Quantitative measurements of cerebral blood flow patterns (in ml/min/100g) not only in p.a. but also in lateral views of the brain are possible by using of the short-lived (30 sec) isotope Au 195m. The energy spectrum of the eluate of the generator shows two strong photon peaks, one at 68 keV and a second at 262 keV. The 68 keV peak is suitable for perfusion studies in lateral views of the hemispheres, no 'look through' effect is seen. The 262 keV peak is good for studies in p.a. positions. The studies last less than 1 minute and can be repeated after 3 minutes. Parametric images for quantitative regional cerebral blood flow can be generated. The area of occluded vessels in the case of stroke can be made visible. Quantitative activation patterns of cerebral blood flow during mental stimulation can be generated. After optical stimulation a clear increase of blood flow was seen in the visual cortex. The results prove that not only with freely diffusible (like Xenon) but also with nondiffusible indicators like 195m Au it is possible to measure quantitatively cerebral blood flow patterns. Au 195m is very advantageous for quantitative clinical investigations of cerebrovascular disease. (Author)

AbstractAbstract
[en] Technique for radioisotopic decoration of polished sections using 195Au autoradiography is described. Trace autoradiography (a - microradiography) was performed using A-2 type thick-layer plates while contrast radiography of summmary α- and β-radiation was performed using PM-1 type X-ray film. The exposition is 10-60 days. The technique described permits to identify subtle peculiarities in the mineral distribution, gold in particular, as well as to simulate in a certain degree the interaction processes of concrete mineral associations with solutions containing the element investigated in concentrations close to the natural ones

AbstractAbstract
[en] It is known that gold(III) is readily extracted from nitric acid solutions with ethers. The authors have studied extraction of trace amounts of gold(III) from nitric acid solutions with diethyl and diisopropyl ethers in the presence of significant excess of Pt(IV). Distribution coefficients of gold(III) were measured radiometrically using carrier-free gold-195 or spectrophotometrically in the presence of platinum(IV). Very high coefficients of gold separation from platinum may be achieved. Preliminary experiments have shown that zinc-65 was not extracted with ethers from nitric acid solutions. As an extraction system, the authors have chosen the system 10 M HNO3-diisopropyl ether. After model experiments, the authors have performed recovery of carrier-free gold-195 from a real platinum target irradiated with protons in a cyclotron

AbstractAbstract
[en] In many nuclear medicine departments rest and stress radionuclide angiocardiography (RNA) has become a routine study for patients with coronary heart disease. By contrast, reports on comparable studies for patients with dilatrive cardiomyopathy (DCM) are scarce. In 30 of a total of 88 patients with DCM right and left ventricular function studies at rest were complemented by determination of the left ventricular functional myocardial reserve on exertion. Method: First pass technique using 99m-TcO4 and 195m-Au and a multi-crystal camera. Patients were examined upright 30 degree RAO. After obtaining images at rest ergometer exercising was gradually increased to the patient's individual exercising limit and images were again taken immediately after exercising was terminated. Results were compared to those of a comparable group of patients with myocardial infarction to shed light on the following questions: (1) Is the global response to exercising of the left ventricle in the presence of cardiomyopathy basically the same as that of a ventricle in coronary disease. (2) Does an analysis of regional parameters (regional ejection fraction, rate of regional volume reduction) help to discriminate between these 2 conditions. (Author)
