AbstractAbstract
[en] From 1981 to 1986, 12 patients with Stage I and II diffuse large cell lymphoma of the mediastinum were treated with 4 or more cycles of multiagent chemotherapy and for nine patients this was followed by mediastinal irradiation. The response to treatment was assessed by three-dimensional volumetric analysis utilizing thoracic CT scans. The initial mean tumor volume of the five patients relapsing was 540 ml in contrast to an initial mean tumor volume of 360 ml for the seven patients remaining in remission. Of the eight patients in whom mediastinal lymphoma volumes could be assessed 1-2 months after chemotherapy prior to mediastinal irradiation, the three patients who have relapsed had volumes of 292, 92 and 50 ml (mean volume 145 ml) in contrast to five patients who have remained in remission with residual volume abnormalities of 4-87 ml (mean volume 32 ml). Four patients in prolonged remission with CT scans taken one year after treatment have been noted to have mediastinal tumor volumes of 0-28 ml with a mean value of 10 ml. This volumetric technique to assess the extent of mediastinal large cell lymphoma from thoracic CT scans appears to be a useful method to quantitate the amount of disease at presentation as well as objectively monitor response to treatment. 13 refs.; 2 figs.; 1 table

AbstractAbstract
[en] We present three cases of mediastinum benign schwanomas, studied by CT and their pathological correlation. The different areas of mixed attenuation on CT, corresponds histologically to areas of hypocellularity, cysties and xanthomatous degeneration, so we conclude that the inhomogeneity which is presented in this tumors does not necesarily indicate malignity. [en] In application of wide latitude HR-C film to chest x-ray examination, former x-ray diagnosis area is larger and diagnostic information has great deal of promotion. HR-C film is compare to former x-ray film is larger latitude and density level is small, reading is very easily. Especially, high estimate that is in characteristic curve linearity of toe part is good, contrast of low density made good shape and not good describe to overlap is diagnostic information increase mediastinum portion etc

AbstractAbstract
[en] The experience of a large Cancer Institute in treating invasive thymoma has been reviewed. Twenty-eight patients received radiotherapy following biopsy or incomplete resection of thymoma. The overall survival was 53 percent at 5 years and 44 percent at 10 years. Treatment was generally well tolerated but 3 patients (11 percent) developed significant side effects from the radiotherapy and two of these died. Radiotherapy appeared to be more effective in patients who had a small volume of residual disease after surgery. An attempt was made to identify prognostic factors but none reached statistical significance. The radiation dose, field size and the use of systemic treatment are discussed. [en] We present a case of intraparenchymal rupture of a mediastinal benign teratoma with focal emphysema in a 20-year-old woman. We describe the imaging and histological findings and we review the literature to explain the relationship between a benign teratoma and emphysema

AbstractAbstract
[en] Lesions primarily involving the middle mediastinum are uncommon and include lymph node diseases, cystic lesions, neurogenic tumors, mesenchymal tumors, tumors of mediastinal organ, and other benign processes. In this article, we illustrate imaging findings of a variety of middle mediastinal lesions with pathologic correlation

AbstractAbstract
[en] A case of congenital multilocular intrapulmonary bronchogenic cyst which was undifferentiated radiographically from congenital lobar emphysema, large pneumatocele, or tension pneumothoax is reported. The cyst occupied about 4/5 of left lung fields and displaced the mediastinal structures to right moderately and compressed the remaining left lungs severely

AbstractAbstract
[en] Lymphoma can involve the thoracic region as primary lesions or a part of generalized lymphomatous manifestations. It has been thought that early detection of intrathoracic manifestations of lymphoma is very important for treatment and prognosis. So the authors analyze the 150 cases of lymphoma and their manifestations. The results are as follows; 1. Intrathoracic involvement of lymphoma occurred about 50% of all cases and more frequently in males than females with the ratio of 4 : 1. 2. Hodgkin's lymphoma (59%) involves the thoracic region more often than Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (52%). 3. The most frequent manifestations of lymphoma in chest x-ray are mediastined lymphadenopathy (30%) and hilar lymphadenopathy (22%). 4. Parenchymal lesions are seen in 27% of cases. 5. Pleural effusion (13%) and pericardial effusion (6%) are also occurred and rarely chest wall mass is noted
