AbstractAbstract
[en] A new picosecond lifetime measurement system developed at UNISOR was used to determine the lifetime of the well-deformed 02+ levels in 188Hg and 186Hg. The half-life values were measured to be 288 ± 63 ps in 188Hg and ≤ 52 ps in 186HG. The corresponding values of p2(E0) x 103 obtained from the E0 partial half-lives are 5.5-2.3+1.5 and ≥ 32, respectively. Additionally, the half-lives of the 22+ levels were determined to be 199 ± 44 ps in 188Hg and 66 ± 37 ps in 186Hg

AbstractAbstract
[en] New isotopes 186,188Tl (T1/2186=4.5/sub -//sub 1/./sub 5/+1.0 and 28plus-or-minus2 sec and T1/2188=71plus-or-minus1 sec, respectively) have been identified. Conversion-electron, γ, γ-γ, and e-γ studies helped establish in 186,188Hg two bands, one built on a slightly deformed ground state and one on a more strongly deformed shape with 0+ band heads at 522 and 824.5 keV, respectively. Their crossing explains the anomalous behavior of I in the yrast cascades. States above and below the crossing in both bands support the existence of a well-defined second minimum in 188Hg

AbstractAbstract
[en] The γ and e- emitted by 188Tl (Tsub(1/2)=71s) nuclei on-line mass separated at Isocele (Orsay) have been studied and a partial level scheme of 188Hg nuclei established. It shows how Hg nuclei of unstable oblate shape become critical nuclei (β2γβ3Δ unstable) at A=186
[fr]

AbstractAbstract
[en] Fusion process between massive nuclei has been extensively investigated so far. It is well known that in reactions involving heavy projectile-target combinations, complete fusion is significantly hindered due to large coulomb repulsion force. In this work, the dependence of fusion on nuclear shell structure of colliding nuclei has been investigated for the two systems 48Ti + 140,142Ce populating compound nuclei 188,190Hg, respectively. Here, 140Ce target is neutron shell closed (NT=82) but 142Ce have 84 neutrons. The effect of neutron shell closure on fusion probability can be examined by determining the ER cross sections for these systems
