AbstractAbstract
[en] The α-decay properties of 190Po were investigated through the use of a fragment mass analyzer in conjunction with a double-sided Si strip detector. The isotope was produced via the 96Mo(96Mo,2n) reaction, and its α-decay energy and T1/2 were measured as 7529(10) keV and 2.4-0.3+0.4 ms, respectively. The resulting reduced width is nearly identical to that of the 192,194Po isotopes. This is believed to result from significant mixing between the ground state π(2p) and the low-lying 0+π(4p-2h) intruder state in the Po parent. The result provides further evidence for shape coexistence in the light Po isotopes. In addition, 191Po was unambiguously identified, and the 186Pb α-decay branch was determined experimentally for the first time. copyright 1997 The American Physical Society

AbstractAbstract
[en] The /sup 96/Mo(d,p)/sup 97/Mo reaction has been studied with 12 MeV deuterons. Absolute differential cross-sections have been measured. Angular distribution data are analyzed in terms of distorted wave Born approximation calculations to determine iota values and spectroscopic factors. Ambiguity in the spin assignments of d 5/2 and d 3/2 which is allowed in iota = 2 (d,p) transition is removed by using the corresponding L-value of the /sup 95/Mo(t,p)/sup 97/Mo reaction at E/sub t/=12 MeV. Determined value of the sum of spectroscopic factors for transfers of d 5/2 neutrons suggests configuration mixing in the ground state of /sup 96/Mo

AbstractAbstract
[en] The nuclei 96Mo and 100Mo have been Coulomb excited using various combinations of beams and targets. The investigation of the electromagnetic structure of these isotopes provides an experimental background for a theoretical description of the shape coexistence observed in the previously studied 98Mo isotope. AbstractAbstract
[en] The ''Recoil-in-Vacuum'' method as described recently in is used to determine the unknown magnetic moment of the 21+ state in the neutron-rich nucleus 140Ba. A Coulomb excitation experiment in inverse kinematics was performed at REX-Isolde (CERN) in 2007. Beams of 140,142Ba were impinging on a 0.9 mg/cm296Mo target and a 1 mm Cu stopper. Gamma rays were detected by the MINIBALL array, a DSSSD was used for particle identification. The microscopic structure of the 21+ state is investigated by the magnetic moment, which is sensitive to the composition of the wave function regarding proton and neutron configurations, and is compared to predictions from various calculations.

AbstractAbstract
[en] Mixed-symmetry states in 96Mo have been identified using the (n,n'γ) reaction. From the lifetime measured using the Doppler-shift attenuation method and multipole mixing ratios, B(E2) and B(M1) values were determined. The 2ms+ state was found at 2095.77 keV with B(M1: 2ms+ → 21+) = 0.18μN2, while the 1ms+ strength lies primarily in states at 2794.45 and 3300.23 keV

AbstractAbstract
[en] The collision dynamics of 96Mo + 96Mo at 55 A MeV is simulated by solving numerically the Boltzmann-Uehling-Uhlenbeck (BUU) transport equation for the one-body phase-space distribution-function of nucleons with and without Coulomb interaction. A scatter-plot of the one-body density distribution shows an initial compression, subsequent homogeneous expansion, a breaking into ''fragments'', a very slow creeping expansion up to a freeze-out and in the case of included Coulomb-interaction a Coulomb-explosion. In the calculation which included Coulomb-interaction the overall shape of the ensemble of dense fragments is spherical. The fragments are created over the entire volume of the dense part of the source and not at the surface only. In the simulation without Coulomb interaction a doughnut-like shape may develop. (orig.)

AbstractAbstract
[en] The gamma strength function of 96Mo, derived from a variety of experiments, shows quite severe disagreement, in particular near the neutron threshold. A new experimental method is discussed, viz. relativistic proton scattering under extreme forward angles at RCNP Osaka, Japan, which allows a consistent analysis of data below and above the particle threshold. Here, intermediate-energy proton beams are used in combination with a high energy resolution of the order Δ E/E ∼ 8 . 10-5. E1 and M1 cross sections can be determined by a multipole decomposition of angular distributions utilizing DWBA calculations. The additional measurement of polarization transfer observables provides an independent check of the method. Results for the gamma strength function of 96Mo derived from the E1 cross sections are presented and compared to findings with other experimental techniques.

AbstractAbstract
[en] The decay of 96Tcg has been studied using low-temperature nuclear orientation. Multipole mixing ratios have been deduced for several transitions in the daughter nucleus 96Mo by measuring γ-ray anisotropies following the decay of the oriented 96Tc nuclei. These new mixing ratios are compared with those determined from previous measurements in light of the possible presence of a low-energy 6+ mixed-symmetry state in 96Mo. copyright 1999 The American Physical Society
