AbstractAbstract
[en] We discuss the design and specifications of a 10-in. x 10-in. active area wire chamber. Several of these chambers will be combined with polyethylene converters to make a large volume detector intended for use as a high-energy detector displaying moderate energy resolution. We also discuss the amplifiers and discriminators that have been designed for these chambers. This report only concerns the wire chambers and electronics

AbstractAbstract
[en] The Mesh Chamber is designed to be highly efficient for the conversion of high energy gamma rays and to measure the conversion point with good spatial resolution. It utilizes a multiwire proportional chamber (MWPC) detector which measures the x-y position of the ionization from the gamma conversion electron in the chamber gas. The gas itself is of insufficient density to provide enough conversion material. The special idea in this chamber is to fill the gas volume with many layers of Tungsten wire screen all precisely laid down so that the holes in the screen are aligned. This report covers a new development where x-y plotter is modified so that the pen holder becomes a wire feed. The plotter is controlled by a computer. 4 figs

AbstractAbstract
[en] Second coordinate readout in MWPC by means of sensing electrodes made up by interwoven grid wires has been tested. The results are compared with theoretical expectation. The tapered electrodes tested allow the number of sensing outputs to be reduced and provide signals useful for a quasi-linear interpolation. (orig.)

AbstractAbstract
[en] We describe the construction and the performance of large cylindrical multiwire proportional chambers (roughly 2 meters in diameter and 1 meter long) with anode read out system. The inner and the outer cathode planes are made of foil and foam sandwiches. At 100% efficiency average anode plateau widths of about 300 volts are obtained

AbstractAbstract
[en] Physical processes in multi-step avalanche chambers, detector properties, and difficulties in operation are discussed. Advantages of multi-step chambers over classical MWPC for specific experimental problems encountered in experiment E605 (high-flux environment and CERENKOV imaging) are described. Some details of detector design are presented
