AbstractAbstract
[en] In experiments made on white mice the authors studied the effect of dithiols on the elimination of radioactive mercury, used in diagmostic scanning of the kidneys, from the body. High efficacy of oxathiol was shown that made it possible after the end of radioisotope studies to accelerate the elimination of radioactive mercury from the kidneys and decrease the tissue dose for this critical organ by 11 (203Hg)-9(197Hg) times. A high effect was ensured only after the injection of oxathiol in maximal doses of the preparation, permitted by the Pharmacological Committee

AbstractAbstract
[en] Two patients with obstructive uropathy were scanned after injections of 131I sodium orthoiodohippurate (OlH) and 203Hg chlormerodrin. The 131I OIH scan was performed 30 min after the injection with the patient in the prone position. The 203Hg chlormerodrin was injected as soon as a negligible amount of 131I OIH was detected over the kidney, and the patient was scanned again 30 min later. A third patient and a normal subject were scanned 20 min after the simultaneous injection of 131I OIH and 203Hg chlormerodrin. Three scans with different analyser settings were done in sequence. The first scan was done with a window setting for 131I, and the second scan included both 131I and 203Hg; in the third scan, the analyser was set for 203Hg only. Evidence of hydronephroses, hydroureter and the residual functioning renal tissue were demonstrated by this scanning technique. The intravenous pyelograms in all three cases had failed to give satisfactory results. The simultaneous injection technique was found advantageous over the separate injection technique. (author)

AbstractAbstract
[en] The usefulness of sequential scanning, three and 24 hours after injection of 197Hg chlormerodrin in the detection of metastatic tumors of the brain has been demonstrated. The 24-hour scan was positive in 29 percent of the cases in which a metastatic lesion was suspected although the three-hour scan was negative, and the 24-hour scan also revealed additional masses in another 20 percent. The delayed scan helped to demarcate the actual location of the lesion in 24 percent of the cases in which the three-hour scan was graded merely suspicious. It is concluded that the addition of a 24-hour scan strongly reinforces the statistical accuracy of the 197Hg brain scan, and thus is of practical clinical importance

[en] Experiments were performed with NaCl (Merck) as an electrolyte in the concentration range from 1.10-5 to 5.10-2N at pH 6.8 using low-voltage electrophoresis in a wet chamber (JEVIPLS-Ljujbljana) with a rectifier MA8901. 0.005 cm3 of labelled neohydrin-203, at the concentration of 2-4 mg/cm3 and with an activity of mCi/cm3 was spotted on Whatman No 3, MM (30x2) chromatographic paper stripes. Correction for electroosmosis was performed with 5% H2O2, and 5% KI was used for the identification of peroxide mobility. Maximum separation of 203Hg adn and hydroxychlormerodrin was achieved at 0.05 M NaCl at the potential gradient of 8 V/cm for 2 hrs. (T.G.)
