AbstractAbstract
[en] The purpose of this paper is to present an introduction to polarization phenomena in nuclear reactions at an elementary level. The various polarization observables are defined in the context of experiments. A few experiments, which played a role in the development of polarization techniques in nuclear physics, are used as illustrations. (author)

AbstractAbstract
[en] Recent measurements above 2 GeV/c are considered for C/sub ss/, C/sub nn/, P(np → np), P(π+-p → π+-p), and P(pp → pp). The first three are polarized beam measurements, and the last two are polarized target measurements. Also expectations at larger t and very high energies are discussed

AbstractAbstract
[en] Strong polarization effects are observed for inclusive hyperon production in hadronic collisions. Also quarks which are conventionally regarded as spectators turn out to be polarized, e.g. in the reaction K+p to Λ-X. Thus the 'spectators' can take a more active part in the reaction. In this paper we study how measurements of hyperon polarization in the fragmentation of polarized protons can clarify the role of the spectator quarks, in particular whether it is possible for the spin of the spectators to flip during the interaction. AbstractAbstract
[en] We present a new liquid hydrogen target working as a secondary target for an extended polarimeter. The specificity of this target is that the inner cell has a parallelepipedic shape. The dimensions along the beam and along the focal plane are maximized, for a small vertical extension, using a much smaller volume of liquid hydrogen, as compared to standard cylindrical cells

AbstractAbstract
[en] The polarization of the photon beams produced by high energy electrons channeled in the crystallographic planes is calculated in the constant field approximation using the synchrotron radiation formulae. Some methods for the measurement of the polarization at photon energies greater than 100 GeV are considered. An experimental arrangement is suggested for obtaining and monitoring polarized photon beams at such energies. 19 refs

AbstractAbstract
[en] Starting from beam and target spin systems which are polarized in the usual way by applying external magnetic fields, measurements of appropriate final state tensor parameters, viz., {t/sub 0,1//sup k/, k = 1,...,2j} of particle d with spin j in a reaction a+b→d+c1+c2+. . . , are suggested to determine the reaction amplitudes in spin space free from any associated discrete ambiguity
