AbstractAbstract
[en] Transport of bentazone, isoproturon, linuron, metamitron and metalaxyl were studied under three different flows in macrocosms. The aim was to verify the observations from Part I of the accompanying paper, with an increase in column volume and decrease in chemical and hydraulic load. Very limited breakthrough occurred in the macrocosms for all pesticides, except bentazone, at all flows. From batch degradation experiments, it was observed that the lag time of metamitron and linuron decreased drastically in time for all flows, indicating a growth in the pesticide degrading population. This in contrast to isoproturon and metalaxyl, where an increase in lag time could be observed in time for all flows. From the batch degradation experiments, it could be concluded that the influence of flow on the lag time was minimal and that the inoculation of the pesticide-primed soil had a little surplus value on degradation. - Retention and degradation of pesticides in macrocosms liable to different fluxes.

AbstractAbstract
[en] Rare earth elements and thorium found in the low-grade Eskisehir-Beylikahir ore have been recovered by HCl leaching, Lanthanides and thorium were separated and purified from the leach solutions through the precipitation sequence as double sulphate, hydroxide and oxalate. The Ln2O3 and Th(OH)4 products, finally obtained contained 36% Ce and 65% Th. The analysis of rare earth elements, thorium and other present ingredients were carried out by instrumental neutron activation analysis, atomic absorption spectroscopy, vis-spectroscopy and gravimetry. AbstractAbstract
[en] The purpose of this study is to develop a technique to allow complete oxidation of plutonium from the anode during plutonium electrorefining. This will eliminate the generation of a ''spent'' anode heel which requires further treatment for recovery. Our approach is to employ a solvent metal in the anode to provide a liquid anode pool throughout electrorefining. We use molten salts and metals in ceramic crucibles at 7000C. Our goal is to produce plutonium metal at 99.9% purity with oxidation and transfer of more than 98% of the impure plutonium feed metal from the anode into the salt and product phases. We have met these criteria in experiments on the 100 to 1000 g scale. We plan to scale our operations to 4 kg of feed plutonium and to optimize the process parameters

AbstractAbstract
[en] In recent years, NIM carried out the study of highly sophisticated measurement methods for isotopes, and development of the reference materials of isotopes with the clear metrological traceability to SI units. Herein development of isotopic CRMs of some elements (cadmium and so on) with absolute isotope ratios are presented, including purification of enriched isotope materials, preparation of series synthetic isotopic mixtures, determination of enriched isotopic composition by means of the total evaporation TIMS, and a rigorous assessment of the measurement uncertainty. AbstractAbstract
[en] The review describes the current state of research concerning detonation nanodiamonds, including production, methods of studying the properties and applications. The main achievements in the theory and practice of synthesis of detonation nanodiamonds over the past 15 years are addressed systematically; the influence of control factors on this process, performed using single or mixed explosives, are discussed. A new highly economical and environmentally friendly method for chemical purification of nanodiamonds is described. The operational characteristics of new materials based on nanodiamonds are presented. The application prospects of nanodiamonds in traditional and new fields are demonstrated. The bibliography includes 214 references. (paper)

AbstractAbstract
[en] HDEHP is used as the metal ion extractant in an extractive scintillator solution for the assay of alpha emitters. In this application it is necessary that the HDEHP be as color-free as possible to minimize quenching in the scintillator and as free of monoalkyl phosphoric acid and polyphosphates as possible. HDEHP was purified by various methods: copper precipitation, vacuum distillation, caustic scrubbing. The results are presented. (U.K.)
