AbstractAbstract
[en] We describe an experimental realization of the Deutsch-Jozsa quantum algorithm to evaluate the properties of a two-bit Boolean function in the framework of one-way quantum computation. For this purpose, a two-photon six-qubit cluster state was engineered. Its peculiar topological structure is the basis of the original measurement pattern allowing the algorithm realization. The good agreement of the experimental results with the theoretical predictions, obtained at ∼1 kHz success rate, demonstrates the correct implementation of the algorithm.

AbstractAbstract
[en] Silica-based planar lightwave circuit (PLC) devices can reduce transmission loss and cost in a quantum key distribution (QKD) system, and have potential applications in integration and production. A PLC-based quantum decoding integrated chip for multi-protocols is designed and fabricated, which is composed of variable optical splitters (VOSs), asymmetric Mach–Zehnder interferometers (AMZIs), and variable directional couplers (VDCs). Balanced pulse-pairs of four outputs are obtained simultaneously with measured delay times of 405 ps and 402 ps, respectively. The chip has advantages in achieving high interference visibility and low quantum bit error rate (QBER). (paper)

AbstractAbstract
[en] In this work, we have used Ramsey tomography to characterize charge noise in a weakly charge-sensitive superconducting qubit. We find a charge noise that scales with frequency as1/fα over five decades with α = 1.93 and a magnitude Sq(1Hz) = 2.9 × 10–4e2/Hz . The noise exponent and magnitude of the low-frequency noise are much larger than those seen in prior work on single electron transistors, yet are consistent with reports of frequency noise in other superconducting qubits. Furthermore, we confirm frequent large-amplitude jumps in offset charge exceeding 0.1e; these large discrete charge jumps are incompatible with a picture of localized dipolelike two-level fluctuators. The data reveal an unexpected dependence of charge noise on device scale and suggest models involving either charge drift or fluctuating patch potentials.

AbstractAbstract
[en] Here, e ponder the effect of phase backaction on the correlator 〈I(t)I(t+τ)〉 for the output signal I(t) from continuous measurement of a qubit. We demonstrate that the interplay between informational and phase backactions in the presence of Rabi oscillations can lead to the correlator becoming larger than 1, even though |〈I〉|≤1. The correlators can be calculated using the generalized "collapse recipe," which we validate using the quantum Bayesian formalism. Moreover, he recipe can be generalized to the case of multitime correlators and arbitrary number of detectors, measuring non-commuting qubit observables. The theory agrees well with experimental results for continuous measurement of a transmon qubit. The experimental correlator exceeds the bound of 1 for a sufficiently large angle between the amplified and informational quadratures, causing the phase backaction. The demonstrated effect can be used to calibrate the quadrature misalignment.

AbstractAbstract
[en] We propose a scheme for perfect transfer of an unknown qubit state via the discrete-time quantum walk on a line or a circle. For this purpose, we introduce an additional coin operator which is applied at the end of the walk. This operator does not depend on the state to be transferred. We show that perfect state transfer over an arbitrary distance can be achieved only if the walk is driven by an identity or a flip coin operator. Other biased coin operators and the Hadamard coin allow perfect state transfer over finite distances only. Furthermore, we show that quantum walks ending with a perfect state transfer are periodic. AbstractAbstract
[en] This paper proposes an efficient semi-quantum private comparison protocol (SQPC) using single photons, which allows two classical participants to securely compare the equality of their secret with the help of an almost-dishonest third party. Because of the use of single photons, the SQPC is more practical and the qubit efficiency of the proposed protocol is higher than the existing semi-quantum private comparison protocols. Moreover, the proposed protocol can resist several well-known attacks including outsider and insider’s attacks.

AbstractAbstract
[en] We propose the notion of quantum coherence for superpositions over states which are not necessarily mutually orthogonal. This anticipatedly leads to a resource theory of non-orthogonal coherence. We characterize free states and free operations in this theory, and connect the latter with free operations in the resource theory of quantum coherence for orthogonal bases. We show that the concept of non-orthogonal coherence naturally furnishes us with a wave-particle duality in quantum double-slit experiments where the channels beyond the slits are leaky between them. Furthermore, we demonstrate existence of a unique maximally coherent qubit state corresponding to any given purity. In addition, and in contradistinction with the case of orthogonal bases, there appears a non-trivial minimally coherent qubit state for a given purity. We also study the behavior of quantum coherence for some typical configurations of non-orthogonal bases which have no analogs for orthogonal bases. We further investigate the problem of determining the energy cost of creating non-orthogonal coherence, and find that it scales linearly with the non-orthogonal coherence created. (paper)

AbstractAbstract
[en] High fidelity two-qubit gates are fundamental for scaling up the superconducting qubit number. We use two qubits coupled via a frequency-tunable coupler which can adjust the coupling strength, and demonstrate the CZ gate using two different schemes, adiabatic and diabatic methods. The Clifford based randomized benchmarking (RB) method is used to assess and optimize the CZ gate fidelity. The fidelities of adiabatic and diabatic CZ gates are 99.53(8)% and 98.72(2)%, respectively. We also analyze the errors induced by the decoherence. Comparing to 30 ns duration time of adiabatic CZ gate, the duration time of diabatic CZ gate is 19 ns, revealing lower incoherence error rate compared to r incoherent, int = 0.0223(3). AbstractAbstract
[en] We present a quantum approach to a signaling game; a special kind of extensive game of incomplete information. Our model is based on quantum schemes for games in strategic form where players perform unitary operators on their own qubits of some fixed initial state and the payoff function is given by a measurement on the resulting final state. We show that the quantum game induced by our scheme coincides with a signaling game as a special case and outputs nonclassical results in general. As an example, we consider a quantum extension of the signaling game in which the chance move is a three-parameter unitary operator whereas the players' actions are equivalent to classical ones. In this case, we study the game in terms of Nash equilibria and refine the pure Nash equilibria adapting to the quantum game the notion of a weak perfect Bayesian equilibrium. (paper)

AbstractAbstract
[en] The coexistence relation of quantum effects is a fundamental structure, describing those pairs of experimental events that can be implemented in a single setup. Only in the simplest case of qubit effects is an analytic characterization of coexistent pairs known. We generalize the qubit coexistence characterization to all pairs of effects in arbitrary dimensions that belong to the von Neumann algebra generated by two projections. We demonstrate the presented mathematical machinery by several examples, and show that it covers physically relevant classes of effect pairs. (paper)
