[en] The transfer of 137Cs from soil to selected plants was examined at some sites in the Ore Mountains and the Jeseniky mountains in the Czech Republic. AbstractAbstract
[en] A novel MoS2/TiO2/reduced graphene oxide (MoS2/TiO2/rGO) hybrid photocatalyst was prepared via a two-step hydrothermal process. Where this raspberry-like TiO2 microsphere (300–400 nm) was covered by network-like MoS2 multilayer on the rGO nanosheets. The resulting MoS2/TiO2/rGO hybrid is uniform, chemically stable which can remove 100% Cr(VI) from a 10 mg/L solution within the pH range of 2–5 under simulated sunlight irradiation. Furthermore, it demonstrates excellent reproducibility and stability with a removal rate of 66.7% after seven recycling of Cr(VI) photoreduction which shows a great potential for practical application. The highly efficient photocatalytic activities of this novel hybrid is believed to be ascribed to the enhanced light absorption and photogenerated charge carriers transfer rate of TiO2 due to the hybridization of network-like multilayer MoS2 and rGO nanosheets.

AbstractAbstract
[en] Existing information on processes and parameters analysed in experimental studies on fruits was reviewed at the inception of the activities of the IAEA BIOMASS Fruits Working Group. Additional information on experimental studies, collected during the activities of the Group and not included in the Review, is presented and discussed in this paper. Studies on deposition of 14CO2, CO35S and 3H2O in the gas phase to apple, raspberry, strawberry and blackcurrant have filled gaps in knowledge of uptake of gaseous pollutants in fruit plants, quantifying processes of deposition, translocation and carry-over between seasons. Measurements over a period of six years on vine plants contaminated via leaves and soil by dry deposition of 137Cs and 9Sr have improved knowledge of the processes of direct deposition to fruit, translocation and carry-over of radionuclides from year to year. Additional information is given on soil to fruit transfer of U, Th and Pb for apple and mandarin grown under intensive agricultural conditions

AbstractAbstract
[en] Raspberries and blueberries grown in the Xth Region, Valdivia, were irradiated in a 137Cs irradiador BPCDI (Brookhaven Portable Cesium Development irradiator) with dosis of 1,5 KGy and 2,5 KGy in order to measure the effect on the chemical composition and the changes of color due to pigments damage using a colorimetric method. Analysis of pH, soluble solids, titratable acidity, dry matter, total sugar and vitamin C were made. Color was analized comparing the pink color of the diluted fruit juice with a color scale of different concentrations of a cobalt scale of different concentrations of cobalt chloride. Results demonstrated that the radurization treatment does not affect chemical composition with dosis up to 2,5 KGy. It was possible to detect differences of color in raspberries and not in blueberries because of the less sensitivity of color pigments to radiation. (author)

[en] In our previous report, raspberry-like carbon black/polystyrene (CB/PS) composite microsphere was prepared through heterocoagulation process. Based on the previous study, in the present work, the morphology of raspberry-like CB/PS particle is tailored through adjusting the polarity and the concentration ratio of CB/PS colloidal suspension with the purpose to prepare particulate film for the fabrication of superhydrophobic surface. Scanning electron microscope (SEM) confirms the morphology of raspberry-like particle and the coverage of CB. Rough surfaces fabricated by raspberry-like particles with proper morphology are observed by SEM and clear evidence of superhydrophobic surface is shown. The structure of raspberry-like particle is analyzed by atom force microscope. The proposed relationship between the hydrophobicity and the structure of CB aggregates on the surface of PS microsphere is discussed in details.

[en] A facile method for fabrication of raspberry-like Au nanostructures (Au NRBs)-modified electrode by electrodeposition and its applications toward the electrocatalytic oxidation of methanol (MOR) in alkaline medium and oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) in both alkaline and acidic media are demonstrated. The Au NRBs are characterized by UV–Vis absorption spectra, SEM, X-ray diffraction, and electrochemical measurements. The growth of Au NRBs was monitored by recording the in-situ absorption spectral changes during electrodeposition using spectroelectrochemical technique. Here we systematically studied the MOR by varying several reaction parameters such as potential scan rate and methanol concentration. The electrocatalytic poisoning effect due to the MOR products are not observed at the Au NRBs-modified electrode. At the alkaline medium the Au NRBs-modified electrode shows the better catalytic activities toward the MOR and ORR when compared to the poly crystalline gold and bare glassy carbon electrodes. The Au NRBs-modified electrode is a promising and inexpensive electrode material for other electrocatalytic applications. [en] A stable isotope approach has been used to investigate two aspects of the behaviour of fission product elements in the environment and food chains using inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS). Limits of detection (dry mass LODs) of 0.053 mg kg-1 for Sr, 0.011 mg kg-1 for Cs and 0.084 mg kg-1 for Ce were low enough to allow the determination of soil-to-plant transfer factors for soft fruit and the application of the approach to an in vitro model of ruminant digestion. The multi-element measurement capability of ICP-MS also permitted the analysis of selected nutrients, including zinc, in in vitro experiments. (author)

[en] Climatic elements (solar radiation, daylength, water supply, growing degree days (GDD), corn heat units (CHU), soil, and air temperatures) were monitored to determine which elements could account for the variability in yield of primocane-fruiting red raspberry (Rubus idaeus L.) cultivars. The climatic elements were classed as either having a major or minor influence on the vegetative and reproductive components, based on the frequency of the significance of the multiple regression coefficients. Soil temperature and water supply had a major influence, while daylength, solar radiation, and above ground temperature (i.e., air, GDD, or CHU) had a lesser influence on these components. Soil temperature had the largest influence during April and May, while water supply was equally influential at all times during the season. Air temperature and solar radiation had their largest influence during the period of flower initiation and development (i.e., June and July), while daylength was most influential from June to October. Berry count, weight, and yield had the highest frequency of associations among the climatic elements, indicating the complexity of the association between these yield components and climate. Total number of nodes/cane, length of the fruiting section/cane, and the harvest period showed the fewest number of associations. Not all cultivars responded similarly to changes in their yield components. 'Autumn Bliss' was less sensitive to climatic variation than either 'Heritage' or 'Redwing'. When 'Redwing' was the anomaly, it was usually related to air or soil temperatures
