AbstractAbstract
[en] The authors describe a high field Moessbauer spectrometer operating between room temperature and 4.2 K in fields up to 14 T. As examples, spectra obtained on amorphous Fesub(x)Gesub(1-x) alloys and on single crystal RbFeF3 are presented. (Auth.)

AbstractAbstract
[en] Preliminary analysis of pion production in 1.2 GeV/nucleon Kr-RbBr collisions is presented. The negative pion multiplicity is consistent with a convolution of Poisson distributions and a freeze-out density between 1/3 and 1/2 normal nuclear density is extracted. Global negative pion kinematic variables are used to search for possible structure in the multi-pion emission. No evidence for structured emission or conservation constraints is found. Pion interferometry analysis gives a source radius of 5.4 +- 1.2 Fermi and a freeze-out density of .3 +- .2 times normal nuclear density. 10 refs., 5 figs

AbstractAbstract
[en] Fluoride materials display specific properties applicable for use as active and passive optical elements for advanced laser programs. Generally, these materials exhibit low values of n2 and high ultraviolet transmission. Nd:YLF is a very promising laser fusion oscillator element operating in conjunction with phosphate and fluoroberyllate systems. New materials possessing high concentrations of terbium and cerium - KTb3F10, RbTb3F10 and potassium cerium compounds, display high magneto-optical rotatory power, high Verdet's constant, for use as Faraday rotators. Nd:YLF, operating at 1.047 μm or 1.053 μm has been identified as the most promising oscillator material for phosphate and fluoroberyllate systems. The new materials investigation included crystal growth and phase study of KTb3F10. KTb3F10 displays one of the highest figures of merit of any known material. Preliminary growth studies of other potential rotator materials included the RbF-Tb3F10 and the KF-CeF3 systems. Compounds of both systems are expected to display high Verdet's constants

AbstractAbstract
[en] An experiment was conducted at LLL that required low-density, fine-celled foams uniformly loaded with rubidium. Foams meeting these requirements were produced by impregnating foams made from polyacrylonitrile with rubidium fluoride. Foams with densities from 0.025 to 0.4 g/cm3 were prepared and loaded with 0.002 to 0.20 g/cm3 of rubidium fluoride

AbstractAbstract
[en] The problem of concern in this work is the construction of free divergence fields given scattered horizontal components. As customary, the problem is formulated as a PDE constrained least squares problem. The novelty of our approach is to construct the so-called adjusted field, as the unique solution along an appropriately chosen descent direction. The latter is obtained by the adjoint equation technique. It is shown that the classical adjusted field of Sasaki’s is a particular case. On choosing descent directions, the underlying mass consistent model leads to the solution of an elliptic problem which is solved by means of a radial basis functions method. Finally, some numerical results for wind field adjustment are presented.
