AbstractAbstract
[en] A measurement with the RISING setup at the GSI-FRS facility has been performed to study isomer and β decays in N∝Z Cd, Ag and Pd isotopes. This study provides information on the shell evolution around the N=Z=50 shell closure. In particular, three new isomeric states were observed in 96Ag, extending the level scheme to high-spin spherical structures, including core-excited states. A comparison to shell-model calculations ascertains the 100Sn shell gap from this data. The new 96Ag results are presented.

AbstractAbstract
[en] A RISING experiment with an aim to study exotic Cd nuclei was carried out at GSI-FRS facility. Some preliminary results from this experiment are presented here. In particular, the β decay of 96Cd to 96Ag revealed the existence of a high spin isomer predicted a few decades ago. In this context, the structures of both these nuclei are discussed. Shell model calculations using the Gross-Frenkel interaction are used to interpret the results.

AbstractAbstract
[en] Recent network calculations suggest that a high temperature rp-process could explain the abundances of light Mo and Ru isotopes, which have long challenged models of p-process nuclide production. Important ingredients to network calculations involving unstable nuclei near and at the proton drip line are β-halflives and decay modes, i.e., whether or not β-delayed proton decay takes place. Of particular importance to these network calculations are the proton-rich isotopes 96Ag, 98Ag, 96Cd and 98Cd. We report on recent measurements of β-delayed proton branching ratios for 96Ag, 98Ag, and 98Cd at the on-line mass separator at GSI. (orig.)

AbstractAbstract
[en] A wide range of research topics in different fields of physics can be addressed by study of the self-conjugate N = Z nuclei, such as the np pairing, isospin symmetry, the rp-process and the properties of the electroweak interaction. This contribution focuses on the spectroscopy of N∼Z nuclei towards 100Sn. The latest results on the isomeric decay spectroscopy of N∼Z nuclei below 100Sn, such as the N = Z + 2 nuclides 94Pd and 96Ag, the N = Z nuclide 96Cd and so on are highlighted. New opportunities in in-beam γ spectrscopy of N∼Z nuclei towards 100Sn, like 90Rh and 92Pd, with radioactive ion beams are discussed. (author)

AbstractAbstract
[en] During the years 2006 to 2009, Rare Isotope Spectroscopic INvestigations at GSI (RISING) have focused on high-resolution γ-ray spectroscopy of exotic nuclear species at rest: following unambiguous discrimination and identification by the FRagment Separator (FRS) and its suite of detectors, the nuclei of interest were implanted in either a passive stopper or a stack of silicon detectors to allow for measurements of delayed ion-γ(γ) or ion-β(γ) correlations. Results concerning experiments along the N ∼ Z line are summarised. (author)

AbstractAbstract
[en] A future study of the ground state and low-lying isomeric states of 94Ag and 96Ag at the Ion Guide Isotope Separator On-Line (IGISOL) facility, University of Jyvaeskylae, requires the development of a low-energy beam of neutron-deficient silver. In order to attain the highest possible extraction efficiencies the coupling of a hot cavity graphite catcher device to the IGISOL mass-separator is planned. A heavy-ion fusion-evaporation reaction will produce the silver recoils which will be captured in the graphite catcher. Resonant laser ionization techniques will be applied to efficiently and selectively ionize the evaporated silver atoms. A simulation program has been written to study the energy and emittance of the recoils in order to optimize the capture geometry. The off-line development of a laser ionization scheme is discussed and the first results of a performance test of the hot cavity with beam on target are given.

AbstractAbstract
[en] The nuclear structure in the 100Sn region will be presented. State-of-the-art experimental techniques involving stable and radioactive beam facilities have enabled access to exotic nuclei in its next neighbourhood. The analysis of experimental data has established the shell structure and its evolution towards N = Z = 50, seniority conservation and proton.neutron interaction in the g9/2 orbit, the super-allowed Gamow.Teller decay of 100Sn, masses and half-lives along the rp-path, and super-allowed α decay beyond 100Sn. The status of theoretical approaches in shell model and mean-field investigations will be discussed and their predictive power assessed. Selected structure features of 100Sn and its doubly-magic neighbours 56Ni at N = Z, 132Sn and 78Ni at N >> Z are compared. This document is composed of an abstract and the slides of the presentation. AbstractAbstract
[en] A systematic study was performed of microsecond gamma-decaying isomers around 100Sn produced in a fragmentation reaction of a 124Xe beam at 345 MeV/u at the Radioactive Ion Beam Factory of the RIKEN Nishina Center in Saitama, Japan. Half-lives of isomeric states in that region were remeasured allowing us to improve the currently available experimental information. Reduced transition probabilities were deduced and compared to shell-model calculations in various model spaces. The recently reported low-energy transitions in 92Rh and 96Ag were remeasured with improved precision. Additionally, experimental information on isomeric ratios, including five new ones, were extracted and compared to a previous experimental study and the sharp cutoff model of fragmentation reaction. AbstractAbstract
[en] The RISING setup at the GSI-FRS facility was used to investigate the isomer and beta decays in N∼Z∼50 Cd, Ag and Pd isotopes. A preliminary analysis of the data has revealed new results on the Tz=1, 94Pd, 96Ag and 98Cd isotopes. In 94Pd a new high-spin isomer was observed, whilst in 96Ag 3 new isomeric states were identified, including core-excited states. In 98Cd a new high-energy isomeric γ-ray transition is observed, thus enabling us to confirm the previous spin assignment for the core-excited 12+ isomer.

AbstractAbstract
[en] Detailed information on the decay modes of very proton-rich heavy nuclei is a prerequisite for p-process nucleosynthesis models. We have therefore measured β-delayed protons and γ-rays from mass-separated sources of 96Ag, 98Ag and 98Cd, and obtained βp branching ratios of 3.7(9) x 10-2, (1.1+0.5-0.4) x 10-5 and <2.5 x 10-4, respectively. The consequences of the experimental data for rp-process calculations and the results from a statistical model are briefly discussed. (orig.)
