AbstractAbstract
[en] Using gaseous sources of I2 and HI containing the radioactive isotopes 124I and 126I effective cross sections for nuclear resonance scattering from the first 2+ states of 124Te and 126Te were measured. Information is obtained about the charging of the nonradioactive molecular partner after EC decay, the interaction of highly charged ions with neutral molecules, and the slowing down of atoms in a Xe buffer gas. Indications of an iodine complex being stable in the gaseous phase are found. (orig.)

(orig.)Primary Subject

AbstractAbstract
[en] In this work, the half life of the beta-unstable nucleus 127Te was studied using neutron-irradiated samples of 126Te. The gamma activity of each of the irradiated samples was followed for 3-5 consecutive half lives. The results were analysed in two different ways, and the resulting half-life was 9.295(5)h, which is compatible with the tabulated value of 9.35(7)h, with much lower uncertainty.

AbstractAbstract
[en] The half-lives of the 1776.8 keV 6+ level and the 2497.3 keV 7- level in 126Te are measured by registering β-γ coincidences in the decay of 126Sb. The results are Tsub(1/2)(1776.8) = 66+-3 ps and Tsub(1/2)(2497.3) = 152+-5 ps. The collective strength of the 6+→4+ transition depopulating the 1776.8keV state is estimated. An additional half-life of 0.36+-0.06 ns is found but not definitely assigned in the level scheme. (Auth.)

AbstractAbstract
[en] Angular distribution data for the mutual excitation of the 126Te and 22Ne 2+ states have been measured for the inelastic scattering of 93.5 MeV 22Ne on 126Te. Data for transitions to the ground states, the 126Te 2+ state and the 22Ne 2+ state were also obtained. A coupled-channels analysis of the reaction is found to provide a good description of the general features of the data. (Auth.)

AbstractAbstract
[en] Many nuclei in the mass region ∼ 130 e.g. 138Gd, 136Sm, 134Nd, 132Ce, 130Ba, 128Xe have been found in the literature to have K-isomers. The nucleus 126Te has been chosen for studying K-isomerism. This nucleus is expected to have γ - soft behavior and may exhibit K-isomerism as predicted by Xu et al. The energy states up to 10 h have been identified in 126Te. The plan was to build the level scheme first and then look for the isomer, if there is any. Here the experimental result on the excited states of 126Te have been presented

AbstractAbstract
[en] A search for isomeric states was performed in the nucleus 60140Nd80 using in-beam γ-ray spectroscopy and the 126Te(18O,4n) reaction. Prompt and delayed γ-ray coincidences were measured with the AFRODITE spectrometer using the pulsed beam delivered by the Separated Sector Cyclotron of iThemba LABS. One new isomer was identified, with spin-parity Iπ=20+ and lifetime T1/2≥400 ns, at an excitation energy Ex=7430 keV. The lifetime of the 10+ isomer at Ex=3619 keV was determined to be 32.9(1.8) ns, confirming the previously reported value. The configuration of the Iπ=20+ isomer is assigned based on configuration-dependent cranked Nilsson-Strutinsky (CNS) calculations as a state π(d5/2g7/2)10+-4xν(h11/2-2)10+, with the spin vectors of the six holes in the 64146Gd82 core fully aligned
