AbstractAbstract
[en] Natural radioisotopes contained in foods can enter the human body by ingestion and contribute to internal doses to the population. It is necessary to measure the concentration of natural radioisotopes especially thorium in Korean foods and estimate the internal doses. In this study, we have established the thorium measuring process based on the thorium extraction chemical process and alpha spectroscopic method. The concentration of Th-228, Th-230 and Th-232 in Korean milk, meats(pork, beef and chicken) and grain (wheat, bean and rice) are measured and internal doses are estimated

AbstractAbstract
[en] Two independent beam stoppers have been developed for improving the beam separation of the gas-filled recoil ion separator GARIS-II. Performance of these supplemental beam stoppers was investigated by using the 208Pb () 223Th reaction. A160-fold enhancement of the signal-to-noise ratio at the GARIS-II focal plane was observed.

AbstractAbstract
[en] Much of current research in nuclear physics relates to the study of nuclei under extreme conditions such as high spin and excitation energy. Nuclei may also have extreme shapes or extreme neutron to proton ratios. The existence of super heavy elements is major issue in nuclear physics and many experimental and theoretical efforts have been put, in that direction, during the last decade. In the present work Projected Shell Model (PSM) approach has been employed to some even-even and odd mass thorium isotopes

AbstractAbstract
[en] With the advent of tracking-γ-ray spectroscopy, experiments become more and more able to resolve the rich structure of rotational bands in numerous nuclei. More and more data becomes available on bands that are associated in a mean-field context with exotic geometries of the nucleus. To provide a satisfactory mean-field description of such bands, just allowing for axial (or even triaxial) deformations is not sufficient. To improve the description of such states, we have developed a new framework for self-consistent mean-field calculations, using effective Skyrme interactions in a coordinate-space representation. The MOCCa code is a generalization of the principles of the EV8 code, allowing its user for significant freedom concerning symmetry assumptions of the nuclear configuration and a more general treatment of pairing correlations. We will present the first results obtained within this framework, specifically focusing on the rotational properties of exotic shapes. Octupole deformed shapes, breaking reflection symmetry, are a first candidate: recent experimental data offer new insight into the structure of 223Th. A transition between static octupole deformation at low spins to reflection-symmetric shapes at higher spins is suggested by experiment and predicted by a cranked Woods- Saxon calculation. The description of an even-odd system, coupled with the breaking of time-reversal and reflection symmetries, make this application a technical challenge. Breaking signature symmetry is also possible within the framework of MOCCa, allowing more degrees of freedom for the orientation of the angular momentum relative to the nucleus. This freedom opens up the possibility to study wobbling and shears modes as well as chiral rotation. The latter of these phenomena has recently garnered significant experimental interest, especially the detection of multiple chiral doublet (MχD) bands. First results of mean-field explorations using MOCCa in the A ∼ 130 region of such features will be presented. This document is composed of an abstract and the slides of the presentation. (author)

[en] The level structure of the odd-A nucleus 223Th has been investigated by means of in beam electron conversion and gamma-ray spectroscopy. Measurements of the B(M1)/B(E2) branching ratios for transitions in both positive and negative parity bands in 223Th have been carried out using the GAREL+ facility at IReS Strasbourg. (author)

AbstractAbstract
[en] The nuclear structure of even-even and even-odd deformed nuclei is described with several important degrees of freedom: the rotation of the whole system, the fragmentation in a heavy and a very light cluster, like an α– or an "8Be–cluster, the quadrupole and octupole oscillations of the heavy cluster and the single-particle motion of the odd particle. The clusterization is treated within the dinuclear system model by use of the mass (or charge) asymmetry coordinate. The dinuclear system consists of two touching nuclei which exchange nucleons and/or clusters. This description is capable to explain a wide range of nuclear structure effects: positive and negative parity bands, parity splitting, super– and hyperdeformed bands and electromagnetic transition probabilities in and between the bands. Applications and comparison with experimental data are made for rare earth and actinide nuclei, e.g. "2"2"3","2"2"7Th and "2"2"5Ra.

AbstractAbstract
[en] The interchange of two sets of spins in the level structure of 219Ra observed following the alpha decay of 223Th and the suggestion that the ground state of 219Ra was not observed in the heavy ion reaction spectroscopy 208Pb(14C,3n), allow the correlation of these levels which were previously unconnected. The resulting level structure is interpreted in terms of K =(1/2)± and K = (5/2)± parity doublet bands which evolve from anomalous rotational structures into vibrational-like structures with alternating spins and parities. The level structure of 219Ra is successfully interpreted both in terms of octupole deformed (ε3 0.08) Nilsson levels and in terms of intermediate coupling using normal Nilsson levels with very strong octupole correlations. The levels in 219Ra are then compared to the corresponding levels in a series of isotopic and isotonic nuclei to trace the collapse of octupole-quadrupole deformed nuclear structure into the more degenerate shell-model spectroscopy. AbstractAbstract
[en] Einkorn (Triticum monococcum L.) is accepted as the oldest known wheat. In this study, the natural radionuclide and essential metal contents of siyez samples collected from 21 different cultivation areas in Kastamonu province located in the Western Black Sea region of Turkey were determined by using non-destructive analytical methods. The average activity concentrations of K, Ra and Th measured in siyez samples using a gamma-ray spectrometry were found as 181.3 ± 4.1, 10.0 ± 0.7 and 6.1 ± 0.2 Bq kg, respectively. The average annual effective radiation dose that the people are exposed to due to the consumption of siyez samples was estimated as 68.2 ± 3.1 µSv y. The average concentrations of Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu and Zn essential trace metals analyzed in einkorn samples using EDXRF spectrometry were found as 3.6 ± 0.2, 89.2 ± 1.2, 208.5 ± 62.6, 16.8 ± 0.6, 12.1 ± 0.1, 8.3 ± 0.2 and 65.3 ± 2.5 mg kg, respectively.
