[en] The charging of the THTR-300 takes place continuously via three positions in the inner zone and 12 positions in the outer zone. The inner and outer zone are charged alternately. The size of the charging step is chosen so that the mixing zone formed between the two zones does not exceed a given width. The reflector rods are driven out during the whole fuelling process and the core rods are driven into the core. The charging always takes place in the sub-critical condition, where the degree of sub-criticality is checked by measurement of the inverse multiplication factor after each fuelling step. (DG)

Die Beladung des THTR-300 erfolgt ueber drei Positionen in der inneren Zone und 12 Positionen in der aeusseren Zone kontinuierlich. Innere und aeussere Zone werden abwechselnd beladen. Die Groesse der Beladungsschritte wird dabei so gewaehlt, dass die sich zwischen den beiden Zonen einstellende Mischzone eine vorgegebene Breite nicht uebersteigt. Die Reflektorstaebe sind waehrend des gesamten Beschickungsvorganges ausgefahren und die Corestaebe in den Kern eingefahren. Die Beladung erfolgt staendig im unterkritischen Zustand, wobei die Unterkritikalitaet durch Messung der Inversen Multiplikation nach jedem Beladungsschritt kontrolliert wird. (DG)Original Title

[en] For emergency sooling of the THTR-300 there is provided for demineralized water. It is injected by means of the fuel elment transfer tubes arranged distributed around the circumference of the core. Then the water condensed in the core is pumped off again into a intermediate tank through the sphere discharge tubes and from there supplied to the core anew. Thereby the emergency cooling water may be poured on the core in measured quantities from above, while boron compounds may be admixed to it. (DG)

Fuer die Notkuehlung des THTR-300 ist vollentsalztes Wasser vorgesehen. Es wird ueber die am Umfang des Cores verteilt angeordneten BE-Foerderrohre eingespritzt. Das im Core kondensierte Wasser wird dann wieder ueber Kugelabzugrohre in einen Zwischenbehaelter abgepumpt und von dort erneut dem Core zugefuehrt. AbstractAbstract
[en] The pebble bed thorium high-temperature reactor THTR 300 was shut down on September 1, 1989, after > 16 000 h operation time. The THTR 300 is a project that is jointly sponsored by the Federal Republic of Germany, North Rhine-Westphalia, and Hochtemperatur-Kernkraftwerk GmbH. The public financers of this prototype reactor and the operators could not solve the financial problems for continued operation of this technically intact plant. The decommissioning decision had not been expected by the operator. This is why safe enclosure, the German term for SAFSTOR, turned out to be the only technical solution for quick decommissioning of the plant, apart from financial reasons and the nonavailability of a final storage facility. The plant is intended to be dismantled after ∼30 yr of safe enclosure, provided respective funds are available. The decommissioning was and will be performed in three steps, which are largely scheduled one after the other

[en] On the site of the VEW power station 'Westfalen' near Uentrop-Schmehausen, 40 km east of Dortmund, a string net cooling tower is being constructed for the 300 MW THTR nuclear power station now under construction. The building, which has a total height of 180 m, will have a top diameter of 92 m and a basis diameter of 141 m. Its air outlet opening will be at a height of 146 m. (orig./AK)

[en] Commissioning of the THTR took place in three main stages. The zero energy experiments included the criticality of the core without rods, the critical rod position of the fully loaded core under air and determining the excess reactivity and effectiveness of the rods. During the heat test, the isothermal temperature coefficient of the reactivity was determined. The load tests included the critical rod position at different load stages and the measurement of the temperature coefficient and the xenon reactivity. (DG)

Die Inbetriebnahme des THTR vollzog sich in drei Hauptschritten. Die Null-Energie-Versuche umfassten die Kritikalitaet des stabfreien Kerns, die kritische Stabstellung des vollbeladenen Kerns unter Luft und Bestimmung der Ueberschussreaktivitaet und Stabwirksamkeiten. Bei der Warmerprobung wurde der isotherme Temperaturkoeffizient der Reaktivitaet bestimmt.
