AbstractAbstract
[en] The authors summarize and discuss present and future experiments on decays of light mesons and muons that were presented in the Hadronic Weak Interaction working group session of the open-quotes Workshop on Future Directions in Particle and Nuclear Physics at Multi-GeV Hadron Facilities.close quotes Precise measurements and rare-decay searches, which sense mass scales in the 1-1000 TeV region, are discussed in the context of the standard model and beyond

[en] Highlights: • Bi-passivated Si(111) surface is semiconducting with a band-gap larger than 0.75 eV. • Bi-passivated Si(111) surface could be an appropriate surface to support silicene. • Hollow site adsorption of silicene opened a band gap of 0.174 eV for the silicene layer. • Weak interaction found between silicene and Bi-layer, for the TH top site adsorption.

AbstractAbstract
[en] Three models of weak interactions based on six different flavors of quarks are considered. In all cases, for each given flavor there will be three colored quarks, weak and electro-magnetic interactions being color invariant. Furthermore the gauge group of the weak and electromagnetic interactions is restricted to be the familiar, minimal SU(2)XU(1) group. The most interesting theoretical aspects and experimental implications of this six flavors are envisaged for the simplest (purely lefthanded) model, a model with righthanded currents, and a vectorlike model involving a weak interaction theory which is basically parity conserving

AbstractAbstract
[en] Bibliometric techniques were used to create the data base. Nuclear Science Abstracts were scanned for the years 1950 to 1972 inclusive and identified all abstracts of serial publications which pertained to weak interactions. The abstracted articles were classified as either theory or experiment and further classified them according to a subject area typology that developed. It was then determined whether the abstracted theoretical articles were either phenomenology or general theory. Experimental articles were classified according to the technologies employed in the reported experiments. Additional coded data include the authors of the articles and their self-reported attributed locations and the year in which the articles were published. From these data four basic files were created: an article file containing information about each article; an author file containing information about the articles he/she authored or coauthored and his/her location through time; an institution file and a nation file each containing information about the articles published by scientists employed by these institutions or residing in these nations

AbstractAbstract
[en] Highlights: • Amyloid β oligomers are more toxic than the fibrils and more difficult to target. • One critical interactions which stabilizes the oligomers has been discovered recently. • We have designed a short peptide to target this interaction. • It causes a remarkable change in the ability of the oligomers to attach to lipid bilayers. Small oligomers are the major toxic species in many amyloid related diseases, but they are difficult to characterize and target. Here we construct tetra-peptides FXFX (X = F/K), designed to exploit cation-π, π-π and hydrophobic interactions to disrupt the critical F19-L34 contact recently found in Aβ40 oligomers. FRFR accelerates Aβ40 aggregation, and strongly inhibits its binding to lipid membranes, which is important in the context of toxicity. FKFK lacks both of these effects, which correlates with the weaker interaction of K with aromatic residues. Thus it appears possible to tune specific contacts in the oligomer and effectively change its properties.

AbstractAbstract
[en] Exclusive non-mesonic decays of light hypernuclei 6ΛHe and 5ΛHe, with identification of the final residual nuclei 42He and 31He, could be measured for the first time with the FINUDA detector at the DAΦNE φ-Factory. This result could shed light on the ΔI=1/2 rule
