AbstractAbstract
[en] Prompt γ-ray cascades in neutron-rich nuclei around doubly magic 132Sn have been studied at Eurogam II using a 248Cm fission source. Here we report results for the four-valence-proton N=82 nucleus 136Xe and for its N=83 neighbor 137Xe. For both nuclei, the yrast level spectra have been considerably extended, and empirical nucleon-nucleon interactions have been used to assign probable shell model configurations for most of the observed levels. copyright 1998 American Institute of Physics

AbstractAbstract
[en] The neutron binding energy of 137Xe has been deduced to be 4025.2 +- 0.6 keV from a study of the 136Xe(n,γ)137Xe reaction. The importance of a precise value for this quantity is due to the fact that an accurate determination of binding energies of delayed neutron emitters is possible only for 87Kr and 137Xe, neighbouring stable isotopes. AbstractAbstract
[en] The cover gas radioactivity in the reactor vessel increases when a fuel pin failure occurs or RTCB (Run to Cladding Breach) testing is performed. The activity must be reduced to minimize the personnel exposure and to maintain the reserve capacity of the waste gas system in which the residual fission gas is stored. The CGCS (Cover Gas Cleanup System) was installed in the JOYO primary cover gas system to collect and remove the fission gas. The cryogenic charcoal bed cooled by the liquid nitrogen selectively adsorbs the krypton and xenon due to the adsorption ratio difference. The collection ratio for xenon and krypton was measured using fission gas in the fuel failure simulation test and a standard helium diluted non-radioactive gas. As a result, the collection ratio was confirmed to be more than 90% for xenon and more than 80% for krypton by six hours operation of CGCS. It was confirmed that the CGCS has a capability to remove the fission gas effectively. (author)

[en] Determination of the total cross section for the 136Xe+n reaction from transmission measurements has been made. Thirty-five resonances were found in the 0-500 keV neutron energy range. Four very weak resonances may possibly be s-wave neutron interactions
