AbstractAbstract
[en] An effective and simple process for the separation of 177Lu from neutron-irradiated Yb targets was developed. Irradiated Yb target was dissolved in H2SO4 solution and after reduction with sodium amalgam Yb was precipitated in the form of YbSO4. From 50 mg of Yb irradiated target only 1 g Yb remains in solution after precipitation and separation of YbSO4. The overall recovery of 177Lu is estimated at 73%. Further efficient chromatographic separation of carrier-free 177Lu from 1 mg of Yb is relatively easy and is described in several papers. (author)

AbstractAbstract
[en] Heavy ion induced reactions are a prominent tool to study the dynamics of a nuclear reaction. When two heavy ions interact with each other, depending on the incident energy of the projectile and impact parameter, different kinds of nuclear reactions are possible. Isospin asymmetry is the difference in the N/Z ratio of the target and projectile. In this work a systematic analysis of PCNPsurvival, the true ER formation probability, has been carried out from the experimentally measured ER cross sections for six set of systems, each set form same compound nuclei with different neutron number. The dependence of PCNPsurvival on entrance channel isospin asymmetry are studied. The ER cross section has been measured for the reaction 30Si + 176Yb. The PCNPsurvival values are calculated for this reaction. The comparison of PCNPsurvival values calculated for the similar systems shows that the effect of isospin asymmetry on the ER formation probability is prominent only for nuclei with neutron shell closure

AbstractAbstract
[en] The study of fusion-fission reactions around the Coulomb barrier energies have been a topic of intense research during the past few decades. To study the heavy ion induced reactions, in particular fusion excitation measurements at near barrier energies, spin distribution of Evaporation Residues (ER) produced in heavy ion reaction measurements, fission fragment angular and mass distribution measurements etc., require very thin targets. Preparation of thin, isotopically enriched target is an important and challenging task in any nuclear reaction experiments. Also the storage of rare earth material targets, specifically the lanthanides targets are challenging as they are chemically very much active. Targets of 176Yb were required for measuring the ER excitation functions and barrier distribution for our present interest. Self supporting thin targets were required or targets with very thin backing of low Z material were highly preferred for such studies

AbstractAbstract
[en] The authors have completed the study of the 165Ho(α, 2n)167Tm reaction. Several new bands have been identified up to high spin levels. Several lines or spectrum parts of the reactions 165Ho(α,2n)167Tm and 176Yb(p,3n)174Lu have been observed, yielding interesting spectroscopical information. It has been established, for instance, that the line which appears at 111.024 keV in a Ge(Li) detector measurement of the 174Lu spectrum is actually a doublet. (Auth.)
