AbstractAbstract
[en] Search for superheavy elements is of great importance as it provides a testing ground for our present understanding of nuclear stability and of calculational accuracies for predicting their detailed chemical properties. Vigorous efforts are on way to search superheavy elements either by detecting their presence in nature or by synthesising them using heavy-ion reactions. Based on predicted nuclear and chemical properties very extensive and detailed experiments have been carried out over past decade to obtain a positive evidence for their existence. This review covers the present status of so far unsuccessful search of superheavy elements and the future prospects in this area of research. (author)
