[en] I discuss some aspects of the general understanding of masses of the pseudoscalar mesons, and the application of these ideas to the eta' and the tau(1440). A recent calculation of the eta' mass in the bag model is described. It is argued that the characteristics of the tau(1440) favor a glueball interpretation
