AbstractAbstract
[en] FNAL E-735 will use a magnetic spectrometer and a central tracking chamber located at the CO intersection area that can utilize low luminosity, from 10/sup 27/ to 10/sup 29/ cm/sup -2/, sec /sup -1/, to measure the transverse momentum distributions dN/dp/sub t/ up to p/sub t/ = 1.4 GeV/c for centrally produced p/sup +-/, K/sup +-/, π/sup +-/ and e/sup +-/ as a function of the charged particle multiplicity n/sub c/. The temperature T and size of centrally produced plasma can be extracted from the transverse momentum (p/sub t/) distributions dN/dp/sub t/ and from the like pion correlations, respectively. Evidence for a quark gluon plasma manifests itself by (a) Breaks in < p/sub t/> as a function of dn/sub c//dy in the central region vertical bar y vertical bar < 3, (b) changes in the particle composition as a function of the charged particle multiplicity n/sub c/. (c) Sudden onset to direct photon and lepton pair production. During the 1987 spring collider run the authors will commission the complete detector system. If commissioning goes well, they will measure the charged particle multiplicity distribution, and the associated transverse momentum distribution
