AbstractAbstract
[en] MR imaging of the chest was performed in nine patients who underwent pneumonectomy and had no sign of cancer recurrence, in order to evaluate postoperative chest anatomic modifications by this method. All the MR studies were compared with chest CT. Postpneumonectomy space revealed in all cases a heterogeneous signal both on T1 and T2-weighted spin-echo sequences. Vascular and bronchial stumps were clearly delineated with the two methods. MR imaging depicted low-signal areas around these stumps, considered postoperative scars, while they were misdiagnosed with CT. Spatial involvement was better understood with MR imaging. Surgical clips and calcifications were indistinguishable. No adverse effect was reported in patients with or without surgical clips
