A variety of techniques have been developed to extract data from probes in noisy environments. They can be divided into several categories, such as time averaged I-V scans, fast I-V scans, time sampled I-V scans, following techniques, filtering techniques and multi-probe techniques. Some of these techniques can be applied to beam probes and particle energy analyzers
