AbstractAbstract
[en] Xenotime-(Y) with the highest content of Gd so far observed in this mineral was found in the metavolcanites of the Borka Nappe, Western Carpathians, Slovakia. It is in form of discrete crystals (up to 70 μm in size) Xenotime is usually enclosed in recrystalized volcanic glass which composed of microcrystalline quartz and white mica in association with zircon, monazite and apatite. Xenotime crystals show a concentric zoning in BSE. Central parts of the crystals are represented by xenotime I, which is enriched in Gd (up to 18 wt.% Gd2O3); (Gd3+ (0.21 apfu) and darker irregular rims are represented by xenotime II with the maximum content of Gd up to 3 wt.% Gd2O3; (Gd3+ (0.04 apfu).
