AbstractAbstract
[en] Despite the rise of renewable energy, primary energy production in France decreased by 8.5% in 2020 as compared to 2019, mainly due to a drop in nuclear production, which was greatly impacted by the health crisis. The latter, when combined (to a lesser extent) with exceptionally warm temperatures, led to a 9.8% drop in primary consumption which is at its lowest since the 1980's. Final energy consumption fell significantly in services and industry sectors and on an even larger scale in transport, whereas climate corrected final energy consumption marked an increase in housing. In total, households, companies and institutions spent 144 billion euros on energy consumption, including Euros 32 billion on energy taxes (net of subsidies for renewable energy). Each household in France spent Euros 2,690 on average in 2020, with Euros 1,590 representing energy for housing and Euros 1,100 for fuel. This is 14% less than in 2019
