[en] Acyl group exchange of substituted phenyl acetates with acetic-1-¹⁴C acid catalyzed by pyridine in different solvents was followed kinetically. Structure reactivity relationship and reaction pathway for acyl exchange with acetic acid and acetic anhydride as well as for acetate catalyzed hydrolysis of substituted phenyl acetates are comparatively discussed. The radioactivity was measured by a Tricarb Scintillation Spectrophotometer [Packard Instrument Co]. The IR spectra were recorded on a UR-10 spectrophotometer. Conductrometric and dielectrometric measurements were carried out by using Radelkis equipments. Exchange rates have been calculated from the McKay equation. (F.Gy.)
