[en] The 1975 law which attempted to establish coherent procedures for approving sites for nuclear facilities in Italy also directed the major government bodies to begin the process of establishing a long term siting plan including a 'bank' of suitable sites. The most important of the technical problems encountered is the difficult geological conditions of the country. The method of approach in establishing a 'site bank', the techniques being developed for selection, and methods of assessment are considered. (U.K.)
