AbstractAbstract
[en] A deep inelastic μN scattering cross section asymmetry at momentum transfers Q2 ranging from 15 to 180 GeV2 have been measured. The results is in quantitative agreement with the WS/GIM standart electroweak model and allows one to determine the muon neutral current couplings. The interference between the weak and electromagnetic currents has been observed for the first time in the muon-quark interaction. The quantitative interpretation of the results relies on the validity of the quark parton model and the radiative corrections. The mixing angle of the standard WS/GIM model is sinsup(2)thetasub(W)=0.23+-0.07 (stat.) +- 0.04 (syst.)

AbstractAbstract
[en] The BCDMS Collaboration (CERN NA4 experiment) has taken data to measure the asymmetry in the deep inelastic scattering of m+ and m- beams incident on a carbon target. This measurement can check the structure of the neutral weak current and set a limit on the weak isospin of the right-handed muon. The study of 2.5 million events taken at 120 and 200 GeV is in progress. The study of systematic errors is not yet fully completed. At the present level of understanding the data are in agreement with the standard WS-GIM model

AbstractAbstract
[en] A NA-4 cylindrical-symmetrical focusing spectrometer operating since 1979 in a muon beam at the CERN 400 geV accelerator is described. The device is intended for the investigation of deep inelastic muons interactions with nucleons and nuclei at 120, 200, 240 and 280 GeV to study their structure at small distances to 10-5 cm. Results of analysis of experimental data obtained using carbon targets are given. Conclusions obtained earlier for lower energies, that the nucleon composition includes fractional charge particles-quarks or partons, were confirmed. The Λ parameter necessary for the quark interaction description within the framework of quantum chomodynamics was determined, the lower boundary of the product of upsilon particles by the probability of decay into two muons was established. The NA-4 carbon targets were replaced by liquid hydrogen (deuterium)

AbstractAbstract
[en] We present results on a high statistics study of the nucleon structure functions F2(x, Q2) and R=σL/σT measured in deep inelastic scattering of muons on a deuterium target. The analysis is based on 8x105 events after all cuts, recorded at beam energies of 120, 200 and 280 GeV, in the kinematic range 0.06≤x≤0.80 and 8 GeV2≤Q2≤260 GeV2. Scaling violations observed in the data are in agreement with predictions of perturbative QCD and allow to determine the QCD mass scale parameter Λ. (orig.)

AbstractAbstract
[en] New results are presented on nuclear effects in deep inelastic muon scattering on deuterium and iron targets at large Q2. The ratio F2Fe(x)/F2D2(x) measured in the kinematic range 0.006≤x≤0.70, 14 GeV2≤Q2≤70 GeV2 is in good agreement with earlier measurements in the region of x>0.25. At lower x, the structure function ratio exhibits an enhancement of ≅5%. (orig.)

AbstractAbstract
[en] Data from deep inelastic scattering of 200 GeV muons on a carbon target with squared four-momentum transfer 52 GeV2≤Q2≤200 GeV2 were analysed in the region of the Bjorken variable close to x=1, which is the kinematic limit for scattering on a free nucleon. At this value of x, the carbon structure function is found to be F2C∼1.2.10-4. The x dependence of the structure function for x>0.8 is well described by an exponential F2C∝exp(-sx) with s=16.5±0.6.
