[en] A 106 pb/sup -1/ data sample from the High Resolution Spectrometer at PEP provides preliminary data on inclusive production of Phi-mesons and the F/sup +-/(1975) decaying into Phiπ/sup +-/. The fragmentation functions D(z), where z = 2 . E/√s, and cross sections are measured and compared to existing data. The fragmentation function for the F(1975) is observed to peak near z = 0.25, implying that the production mechanism of the F at these energies is not dominated by primary charmed quarks. Production and decay angular distributions of the F are also presented. An F mass of 19175 /sup +-/ 4 MeV/c/sup 2/ has been measured

[en] This paper presents measurements of the inclusive production cross sections of Λ baryons in e⁺e^- annihilations at √s = 29 GeV. The data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 256 pb^-1 collected with the High Resolution Spectrometer at PEP. Comparisons are made to the predictions of the Lund model. The data are well described using a strange diquark suppression parameter, (us/ud)/(s/d), of 0.89 +- 0.10/sub -0.16//sup +0.56/, and the measured Λ/sub c/ → Λ + X branching ratio of 23 +- 10%. [en] Data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 176 pb^-1 from the High Resolution Spectrometer at PEP has been used to study the inclusive production of phi-mesons and F^+- mesons decaying into phiπ^+-. Fragmentation functions and cross sections are presented and compared to existing data. The total phi cross section is 40 +- 6 pb. The rate of F production in the region z > 0.4, asuming R(F)/(R(F)+R(D)) = 0.15, corresponds to an F → phiπ branching ratio of (2.0 +- 0.8)%. 5 refs.

[en] The production of tau-lepton pairs in e⁺e^- collisions at 29 GeV has been used to study the inclusive tau decay into five charged particles. Ten events are observed in the high-resolution spectrometer giving a branching ratio of B(tau→5π^+-+nγ+ν/sub tau/) = (1.3 +- 0 .4) x 10^-3. Five of the events contain photons which are consistent with coming from a single π⁰. With this interpretation we measure B(tau→5π +- +ν/sub tau/), B(tau→5π^+-+π⁰+ν/sub tau/) = (6.7 +- 3.0) x 10^-4. The branching-ratio upper limit for the decay mode tau→K⁰+3π^+-nγ+ν/sub tau/ is found, at 90% confidence level, to be 2.7 x 10^-3

[en] The forward-backward asymmetry A expected from the γ - Z⁰ interference term in the process e⁺e^- → q anti q is observed in the lab production angular distribution of high momentum A baryons. The data were collected with the High Resolution Spectrometer at PEP and an integrated luminosity of 256 pb^-1 at √s = 29 GeV was used in the analysis. The asymmetry is seen to increase with the fractional energy z = 2E/√s of the A due to the decreasing presence of nonleading particles. The value obtained for A baryons with z ≥ 0.3 is A = -0.22 +- 0.08 +- 0.02

[en] The wavelength of the 3dsub(5/2) - 2psub(3/2) muonic X-ray transition in ²⁸Si has been measured relative to the wavelength of the 84 keV gamma ray from a ¹⁷⁰Tm source.
