AbstractAbstract
[en] In this thesis the multiplicity and the pseudorapidity distributions of charged particles are discussed, which are emitted after reactions of 16O projectiles with heavy nuclei at 60+200 A GeV. Two complementary descriptions of a heavy ion reaction are presented. The one picture arguments with the collective model of nuclear matter, for which at high temperatures and densities a transition from the hadron gas to the quark-gluon plasma is expected. The other picture is based on the independent superposition of nucleon-nucleon collisions. The dependence of the multiplicity distribution on the energy, the target, the centrality, and the pseudorapidity interval are studied and compared with the results from the event generators FRITIOF and VENUS. Thereby it is shown that the shape of the distributions is essentially reproduced by these string models and by this determined by the collisional geometry of the reaction partners. For the search for a possible indication of the phase transition of nuclear matter the multiplicity fluctuations are studied as function of the pseudorapidity interval. But no deviation from the picture of the independent nucleon-nucleon collisions and the effects of statistical fluctuations are shown. The pseudorapidity distributions show clearly that nuclei above 200 A GeV are not transparent and the energy densities necessary for a phase transition could be reached in the order of magnitude. The distributions are reproduced by the event generators quite well except for the target rapidity range. (orig./HSI)

(orig./HSI)Original Title

AbstractAbstract
[en] This research aims at proposing solutions regarding instruments to perform neutron flow measurements in nuclear power reactors and to perform measurements of the reaction rates of highly radioactive transuranic fissile elements in experimental reactors. This research is also part of a program aimed at the adjustment of the Cadarache cross section set. The report defines the instrumentation, recalls the operation of fission chambers, discusses the implemented instrumentation, and discusses the obtained measurements

AbstractAbstract
[en] Reactivity depends strongly on disturbances of the level of the plutonium solution In the homogeneous reactor. Proserpine has a small cylindrical core, 250 mm diameter, and 10 liters volume. With a view to reducing the dangers due to corrosion and contamination, the solution level in the core is raised by pneumatic pressure. The level is stabilized by means of a regulating system. During critical experiments the variations of the level are less than one hundredth part of a millimeter. (author)

AbstractAbstract
[en] The authors present an equipment designed for the study of the statistical fluctuation of the number of neutrons existing in a pile in the neighbourhood of its critical status. This equipment must allow series of counts of constant duration per series, and triggered by a random process. The counting assembly is presented (principle, description and operation), as well as the memorization assembly for a slow or quick count triggering

AbstractAbstract
[en] Twelve asymptomatic men who were chronic alcoholics (42.3+-10.7 years, mean age +- 1 SD) underwent supine bicycle exercise and gated cardiac blood pool imaging 4-7 days after alcohol withdrawal and then again 32-65 days after abstinence (42.2+-15.0 days). Workloads and exercise stages were identical during both exercise studies. Rest and exercise heart rates, blood pressures, cardiac outputs, double products, and systemic vascular resistances were similar in both studies. Ejection fraction (EF) was higher after abstinence at peak exercise (0,68+-0,07 vs. 0.61+-0.08 P<0.05); end-systolic volume (ESV) was smaller at rest and at peak exercise after abstinence (P<0.05). During the first exercise study, 6 of 12 (50%) subjects did not increase their EF by 0.05 units and 4 of 12 (33%) had no EF increase after abstinence. Even the original ''normal'' responders had greater rest and exercise EFs after abstinence. In the first exercise study end diastolic volume (EDV) rose during exercise (P<0.05) while ESV did not change. After abstinence, EDV did not change during exercise, while ESV declined (P<0.05). These results show that latent cardiac dysfunction exists in asymptomatic chronic alcoholics, which is partially although not completely resolved by abstinence of brief periods

AbstractAbstract
[en] Pediatric interventionalists and surgeons treating congenital heart defects at the KinderSpital children's hospital in Zurich, Switzerland, use a ''hybrid'' approach to minimize the incidence and extent of open-heart surgery. The hybrid approach combines catheterization and surgical techniques in a single procedure, performed in the same lab. The combined cardiac cath lab/surgery suite is equipped with a Philips Integris Allura BH5000 9''/9'' biplane system, designed to meet all the requirements for pediatric applications, including the need to keep the quantity of contrast agent and the radiation dose to the minimum. Wherever possible, diagnostic X-ray examinations are supplemented by MR and Ultrasound. (orig.)
