AbstractAbstract
[en] 606 children has been under observation. The average dose of radiation of these children was 3 Br. The complex examination performed included the genetic analysis, the case history data, the clinical symptomatology, the quantitative and qualitative indices of haemopoiesis elements, the immunity system state. It made it possible to determine different impairments in the children. The groups for haemotological pathology observation have been organized. 3 tabs

Medical aspects of the Chernobyl accident1988
Medical aspects of the Chernobyl accident1988
AbstractAbstract
[en] Operation of the register involves analysing the basic parameters characterizing the health of children, carrying out epidemiological studies on various types of disease, refining dose parameters and reconstructing actual doses, establishing spatial and temporal dose distribution patterns, providing systematic information in support of the register, and so on. By 16 May 1986, thyroid dose monitoring had been carried out and detailed blood analyses performed on 140,000 children, who were also given complete medical examinations by specialists. In 95% of these children, the calculated caesium intake at the end of the year following the accident was less than 1 rem. Further information support for the register of the child population with the same comprehensive volume of medical information will make it possible to study the teratogenic effects of ionizing radiation and abnormal growth and development of children exposed at an early age, and to determine risk coefficients as a function of time, teratogenesis and cancer of the more sensitive tissues, as well as the effects of small doses of ionizing radiation. AbstractAbstract
[en] Data about 951 cases of leukemia and lymphomas appeared at pre- and postaccident period among adult and children population of Kiev and Zhitomir oblasts (regions) is represented in the paper totally for period of 1980-1996. Assessment of cases of diseases has been conducted among inhabitants of controlled areas in oblasts mentioned above with soil contamination with Cs-134 within 1-15 Ci/sq.km and above. Efficient irradiation dose of leukemia patients deviated within 0.15-15.0 cSv. For period mentioned above analysis of data obtained did not reveal any excessive cases of leukemia and lymphomas among children and adults residing on territories of radiological control in Kiev and Zhitomir oblasts, and they are similar. Meanwhile, we should point out change in pathomorphosis of the disease with excess of cases of leukemia with unfavourable course. (author)

AbstractAbstract
[en] The Chernobyl accident led to special situation when some people taking part in elimination of its consequences of Chernobyl accident were irradiated in high doses. 145 men had suffered from acute radiation syndrome of different degree, and 105 of them lived in Ukraine. Millions of Ukrainians had also suffered from other accident consequences as a clean-up workers, inhabitants of highly contaminated territories etc. Immune and heamatologic disturbances played the important role in early reactions to irradiation and other factors. They are very important still in predicting late health effects 10 years after the Chernobyl accident. (author)
