AbstractAbstract
[en] The method of filter manufacturing described consists in that an element in powder form, e.g., cadmium or tin, or oxides, e.g., cadmium oxide or tin oxide are compacted at a pressure of 500 to 2000 kg/cm2 with powder fillers, such as lactose, glucose, calcium phosphates, cellulose or starch. The filter surface is finished with fixation agents, e.g., polystyrene chloroform solutions. Thus, the need for filter balancing is eliminated. Accurate proportioning of the filtering element of the compacted mixture and accurate balancing are achieved by reducing the filtering element content. (J.P.)

AbstractAbstract
[en] Airborne lead particulates collected on a membrane filter were determined by the nondestructive X-ray fluorescence method. The gamma/X radionuclide source 241Am/Ag and a scintillation detector with a NaI/Tl crystal were used for the excitation and detection, respectively, of L X-rays of Pb. One can say, with reference to the obtained results, that the sensitivity and accuracy of the measurement is more than adequate for monitoring the Pb level in air. (author)

AbstractAbstract
[en] Radionuclide X-ray fluorescence analysis for nondestructive determination of Fe, Zn, Pb, and Br in air samples collected on nitrocellulose membrane filter Synpor 4 is described. A 238Pu source for the excitation and a semiconductor Si/Li detector for the detection of characteristic and L-fluorescent radiation of the above elements were used. A correction method based upon the measurements of simple or multiple Compton scattering for compensation of varying mass per unit area values in sample deposits was theoretically proposed and experimentally tested. The results obtained both with and without the correction were compared and good agreement with those given by atomic absorption spectrometry was observed. (author)

AbstractAbstract
[en] The content of Fe, Zn, Br and Rb in the blood of blood donors from the Bratislava region was determined by radionuclide X-ray fluorescence analysis. A 109Cd radionuclide source was used for excitation and a semiconductor Si/Li detector together with a Canberra 8100 multichannel analyzer was used for the detection of the fluorescence radiation. The results were processed statistically and compared with published data. The X-ray fluorescence method described was found to be suitable for elemental analysis of biological materials. AbstractAbstract
[en] Determination of Mn, Fe, Ni, Cu, Zn, and Pb in human soft tissues by radionuclide X-ray fluorescence analysis (using 238Pu and 109Cd sources) is described. The results of multielement XRS analysis of selected human tissues are tabulated. They are in good agreement with the literature data. It is concluded that X-ray fluorescence technique is a suitable method for trace element determination. (author)

AbstractAbstract
[en] Argentometric titration with the indication of the point of equivalence based on the interaction of low-energy photons with the analyzed matter is described. The characteristic line of silver was excited by the combined source 147Pm/Sm; the samples were either in cuvettes or deposited on chromatographic paper. The results are - within the limits of experimental errors - in agreement with the results of the classical argentometric titration with the visual indication of the point of equivalence. (author)

AbstractAbstract
[en] The feasibility was studied of the application of radionuclide X-ray fluorescence analysis to the identification and determination of chemical elements in the air. A description of the method is presented, the main stages of the analysis are discussed (sample preparation and standards, selection of radioactive radiation sources, geometry of measurement and evaluation of results). The method is illustrated on the determination of elements Fe, Cu, Zn, Br, and Pb in air samples taken in the city of Prague. (author) 2 tabs., 2 figs., 14 refs
