AbstractAbstract
[en] Using the PM1 polarized proton beam at SIN and a polarized target, the elastic pp scattering as well as the inelastic channel pp → π+d have been studied between 400 and 600 MeV. For the elastic reaction, a sufficient number of spin dependent parameters has been measured in order to do a direct reconstruction of the scattering matrix between 380/sub cm/ and 900/sub cm/. 10 references, 6 figures

AbstractAbstract
[en] In 1987, the Geneva group published the first direct reconstruction of the six complex amplitudes of the pp→dπ+ reaction at 447, 515 and 580 MeV. This reconstruction was based on spin correlation and spin transfer observables measured at PSI. Since, due to a sign disagreement with the KSS data recently measured at TRIUMF, we discovered that some of our spin transfer parameters had a sign error. This paper details the new analysis performed with the corrected data. We took advantage of this new analysis to improve the d-C polarimeter analysing powers treatment and to make a comparison with new available theoretical models. (orig.)

AbstractAbstract
[en] The Geneva group has performed a direct, model independent, reconstruction of the scattering amplitudes of the pp→dπ+ reaction at 447, 515 and 580 MeV at 8 deuteron center-of-mass angles between 52.50 and 87.50. Final results at 580 MeV are presented

AbstractAbstract
[en] A reconstruction of the scattering amplitudes for pp -> πd at 900 and at 00 c.m. is made from five sets of five polarization parameters measured at 447, 496, 515, 538, 578 MeV. These data allow a determination of the moduli and one relative phase of the three amplitudes at 900 angle and two of the moduli at 00. The deuteron tensor polarizations are also computed from these two reconstructions. (orig.)

AbstractAbstract
[en] The authors have measured at SIN at 5 different kinetic energies 448, 497, 517, 539 and 579 MeV the following polarization parameters: the 2 spin correlation parameters between 300cm and 900cm, the polarization parameter P and the 2 spin polarization transfer as well as the 3 spin tensors between 320cm and 1120cm. Final results are available at 579 MeV and partial results at 448 MeV. The experiment was performed using the polarized proton beam (40% or 80%), and a polarized butanol target. (Auth.)

AbstractAbstract
[en] The transverse polarization of the outgoing proton in the pp → pnπ+ and pp → ppπ0 reactions was investigated for the first time. The measurements were performed at SIN (now PSI) at 517 and 580 MeV on the pM1 polarized proton beam line with an average beam polarization higher than 82%, using a liquid hydrogen target. A carbon polarimeter spin-analyzed the scattered proton, 3 MWPC's tracked the recoil charged particle and a 3.84 m2 neutron detector identified the neutral particle and measured TOF's

AbstractAbstract
[en] The experimental program on the elastic proton-proton scattering is now reaching its conclusion with the achievement of its main goal: for the first time ever an unambiguous, direct reconstruction of the scattering matrix at 579 MeV between 300 < thetasub(CM) < 900. In calculating the experimental observables one finds that they are bilinear expressions of the amplitudes. (Auth.)

AbstractAbstract
[en] Following the completion of the program on pp elastic scattering, the experiment was re-oriented towards a systematic study of the pion production channels in pp scattering. The main inelastic reactions in the energy domain of SIN are the single pion production reactions pp→πd and pp→NNπ. The authors discuss the former reaction which was performed using proton beams of 440, 515 and 580 MeV and polarized either in the x, y or z direction. (Auth.)

AbstractAbstract
[en] The complete determination of the 5 complex amplitudes in pp elastic scattering requires knowledge of about 11 well chosen polarization parameters including 2 or 3 spins parameters. The authors have performed several experiments using the polarized proton beam and target at SIN at 5 different kinetic energies 448, 497, 517, 539 and 579 MeV. A final amplitude reconstruction at 579 MeV between 360cm and 900cm is presented. (Auth.)

AbstractAbstract
[en] In the pp→π+d channel, the authors have performed several experiments using the polarized proton beam and target at SIN to measure the different spin correlation parameters - most of them for the first time. Five energies between 445 MeV and 578 MeV have been covered. In these experiments the beam and target proton spins could be oriented along x, y or z where z is the incoming beam direction, y the vertical direction and x the horizontal. The first set of measurements with a vertically polarized beam and target gave the asymmetries Asub(y0), Asub(0y) and the correlation parameter Asub(yy) at 515 and 578 MeV. More recently data for these same quantities have also been taken at 445, 490 and 540 MeV. (Auth.)
