AbstractAbstract
[en] The Lhc b experiment will play soon an important role in the sector of B-Physics by realizing new key measurements looking for New Physics beyond the Standard Model. It will improve the existing measurements provided by the B-factories and the Tevatron, such as the CKM angles, the Bs mixing phase and the branching ratio of the very rare decay Bs → μ+ μ-. In this paper a summary of the Lhc b potential for these measurements will be given, together with an estimate of their impact on Unitary Triangle fits.

AbstractAbstract
[en] This paper describes the Lhc b computing model and the tools developed to allow the offline data handling. In order to reconstruct and to analyze the data, the Lhc b collaboration will exploit the Grid distributed computing resources spread over the world. Two main software tools will be used to reconstruct and to analyze the huge amount of data taken (about 1 P Byte/year): Dirac and Ganga. Dirac is a software mainly used to easily access distributed computing resources, while Ganga is the Grid user interface to allow user an easy way to submit analysis jobs in a data-driven mode. Finally the DC06 data challenge results will be presented.

AbstractAbstract
[en] This paper describes the computing models and the tools developed within the Lhc collaborations to realize the offline data handling at Lhc. In order to reconstruct and to analyze Lhc data the experiments will exploit the Grid distributed computing resources spread over the world. Different analysis software tools have been developed with the aim of providing user friendly interfaces in order to analyze several Peta bytes of data that will be collected at Lhc. The paper presents an overview of strategies and the distributed data analysis tools employed by Atlas, CMS, and Lhc b.

AbstractAbstract
[en] The LHCb experiment will collect very large samples of B-mesons decaying to charmless two-body final states. The combined measurements of the B0→π+π- and Bs0→K+K- time-dependent CP asymmetries allow a determination of the unitarity triangle angle γ, under the assumption of U-spin flavour symmetry. We present the status of the LHCb simulated analysis of the charged two-body charmless modes

AbstractAbstract
[en] Results of TEM observations and electrical resistivity measurements were used to investigate structural changes in thin films of NiAl3 deposited on a NaCl crystal, exposed to ion bombardment by 170 keV Ni(+) ions at fluences of 5 x 10 exp 12, 5 x 10 exp 13, 5 x 10 exp 14, and 5 x 10 exp 15 Ni(+) ions/sq cm. Cleaved samples were examined by TEM, and electrical resistivity was recorded as a function of fluence, using a four-point probe technique. The results present evidence for the occurrence of cascade-associated amorphization in NiAl3 during ion bombardment. The crystalline to amorphous transformation is nearly complete at about 4 x 10 exp 15 Ni(+) ions/sq cm fluency. 13 refs

AbstractAbstract
[en] Measurements of the current noise power spectrum of the photoconducting insulators CdS and CdSe irradiated with monochromatic light of different wavelength λ are reported. It is shown that there is an abrupt change of about one order of magnitude in the low frequency power density of the noise when λ crosses the photoconductor gap value λ and the photocurrent and the device conductance are kept constant by varying the light intensity. The effect is explained in terms of an abrupt increase of the carrier recombination rate when the photon energy becomes larger than the energy gap of the photoconductor. Possible applications of these results are briefly discussed

AbstractAbstract
[en] The selection of B0 → π+π-, B0 → K+π-, Bs0 → K+K- and Bs0 → π+K- decays at LHCb is presented, and the estimated annual signal yields and background-to-signal ratios for specific and combinatorial backgrounds are quoted. The combined measurement of the B0 → π+π- and Bs0 → K+K- CP asymmetries provides a promising strategy to determine the γ angle of the unitarity triangle. The results of a study on the sensitivity on the direct and mixing-induced CP-violating observables for B0 → π+π- and Bs0 → K+K- decays, as well as on γ are also discussed. (author)
