AbstractAbstract
[en] Using a many-particles plus rotor model, wobbling excitations built on top of a triaxial superdeformed band in "1"6"3Lu are investigated. By extracting all parameters for the rotor from a mean field calculation a good correspondence with calculations based on the random-phase approximation is achieved. (author)

AbstractAbstract
[en] The high spin structures in 86Nb are analyzed using the cranked Nilsson-Strutinsky model. Energy versus spin curves as well as deformations and electric transition quadrupole moments are considered. It is concluded that different single-particle parameters compared with the standard values lead to better agreement with recent experimental results

AbstractAbstract
[en] The high-spin yrast states in 161Lu are calculated in a Cranked Nilsson-Strutinsky approach keeping track of configurations and their evolution with spin. The outcome from calculations neglecting pairing and including pairing are compared. It is predicted that several yrast region configurations terminate at a very favored energy around I = 50 and that one of the observed bands is two transitions short of termination. (author)

AbstractAbstract
[en] Short-lived alpha-decaying nuclei 'north-east' of 208Pb in the chart of nuclides were studied using the reaction 48Ca + 243Am with the decay station TASISpec at TASCA, GSI Darmstadt. Decay energies and times from pile-up events were extracted with a tailor-made pulse-shape analysis routine and specific alpha-decay chains were identified in a correlation analysis. Decay chains starting with the even-even 220Ra and its odd-A neighbors, 219Fr, and 221,219Ra, with a focus on the 219Ra → 215Rn decay, were studied by means of α-γ spectroscopy. A revised α-decay scheme of 219Ra is proposed, including a new decay branch from a previously not considered isomeric state at 17 keV excitation energy. Conclusions on nuclear structure are drawn from the experimental data, aided by Geant4 simulations and a discussion on theoretical calculations. (authors)

AbstractAbstract
[en] Our present understanding of the terminating bands in the I = 40 - 50 spin range of 157,158Er is reviewed briefly. It is only recently that it has been possible to study states at higher spin in these nuclei, beyond band termination. Firstly, a large number of weak high-energy transitions feeding the terminating states were observed. Secondly, some collective structures that extended discrete spectroscopy in these nuclei beyond I = 60 ℎ were identified. These states are interpreted in cranked Nilsson-Strutinsky calculations. We discuss how these calculations contribute to our understanding of shell effects and their dependence on particle number, angular momentum and deformation. (author)

[en] More than a decade ago we published a calculation of nuclear ground-state masses and deformations in Atomic Data and Nuclear Data Tables [P. Moeller, J.R. Nix, W.D. Myers, W.J. Swiatecki, At. Data Nucl. Data Tables 59 (1995) 185]. In this study, triaxial nuclear shapes were not considered. We have now enhanced our model and studied the influence of triaxial shape degrees of freedom on the nuclear ground-state potential-energy (mass) and ground-state shape. It turns out that a few hundred nuclei are affected to a varying degree with the largest effect, about 0.7 MeV, occurring near 108Ru. We provide here a table of the calculated effects of triaxial shape degrees of freedom. Although axial-asymmetry effects were not considered in the 1995 mass calculation, it did study the effects of reflection-asymmetric shape degrees of freedom (ε3) on nuclear masses. However, the magnitude of the effect was not tabulated. Here, we provide such a table. In addition we calculate the effect in a much improved fashion: we search a four-dimensional deformation space (ε2, ε3, ε4, and ε6). This is now possible because the computational resources available to us today are more than 100,000 times better than at the time we calculated the mass table published in 1995

AbstractAbstract
[en] High-spin states in 58Ni have been investigated by means of the fusion-evaporation reaction 28Si(32S,2p)58Ni at 130 MeV beam energy. Discrete-energy levels are observed in 58Ni at record-breaking 42 MeV excitation energy and angular momenta in excess of 30(ℎ/2π). The states form regular rotational bands with unprecedented high rotational frequencies. A comparison with configuration dependent cranked Nilsson-Strutinsky calculations reveals an exceptional two-band crossing scenario, the interaction strength of which is strongly shape dependent

AbstractAbstract
[en] A largely extended experimental knowledge of the 6129Cu32 nucleus has been obtained from three experiments. Excited states in 61Cu were produced via the fusion-evaporation reaction 28Si(36Ar,3p)61Cu. In addition to the Ge array GAMMASPHERE, neutron and charged-particle detectors placed around the target position were used for high-performance particle spectroscopy. The constructed level scheme includes more than 160 energy levels and 320 γ-ray transitions belonging to both normally deformed as well as superdeformed rotational structures. The multipolarities have been determined for the γ-ray transitions and as a result spin-parity assignments are given for nearly all energy levels. Experimental results in the normally deformed region are compared with predictions from large-scale shell model calculations. The collective structures are compared with results from cranked Nilsson-Strutinsky calculations. The results reveal the need to modify the standard Nilsson parameters in the mass A∝60 region. AbstractAbstract
[en] High-spin bands in nuclei with A ∼ 130-170 are interpreted using the cranking formalism where pairing is either neglected or included in the cranked Nilsson-Strutinsky-Bogoliubov (CNSB) formalism. The advantage of the unpaired formalism is that different rotational bands can be understood in a much more detailed way. The combination of these two methods is a very powerful way to get a detailed understanding of observed high-spin states. In this talk, we will point out the difficulty to distinguish between strongly deformed configurations and configurations approaching termination. It is of special interest that terminating states with up to 18 particles or particles + holes outside closed shells have been observed and more of them should be reasonably straightforward to observe. The possibility to exhaust the spin content in major shells will be discussed. This document is composed of an abstract and the slides of the presentation. (authors)

AbstractAbstract
[en] Excited levels in 69As were studied using the 40Ca(32S,3p)69As reaction at 95 and 105 MeV beam energy. Gamma rays were detected with the EUROBALL spectrometer operated in conjunction with the Neutron Wall and the charged-particle detector array EUCLIDES. New level sequences with positive and negative parity were identified from 3p-γγ and γγγ coincidences. Spins were assigned to many of the levels on the basis of directional correlations of oriented states measurements. The previously observed positive-parity band was extended to spin 45/2+ and it was found to exhibit a crossing with another configuration identified up to spin 53/2+. Three negative-parity bands were observed for the first time up to spins (43/2-), 39/2-, and (41/2-). The previously known band was extended to spin (49/2-). No evidence for superdeformation was found, despite very high counting statistics. Configurations were assigned to each of the observed bands through comparisons to the cranked Nilsson-Strutinsky calculations
