AbstractAbstract
[en] In order to reduce heat and radiation losses, the body of nuclear reactors and the connected pipe work are encased in reflecting and insulating piles of thin spaced sheets of aluminium or stainless steel. These spaced sheets are then encased in thicker and more solid internal and external shells. The piles and shells are generally shaped to follow the contour of the reactor and connected piping. It is therefore necessary to have available a study bracing system to keep the pile intact during the various handling and assembly operations. The fastening system must also exert an effect on the edge of the pile to prevent the sheets making it up from shifting in relation to each other. The description is given of a fastening system that includes an oblong section to be fitted along the edges of the piles up sheets; bracing substantially perpendicular to the oblong section, to space the sheets of the stack in pairs; and a maintaining system, normally perpendicular to the oblong section, to enable the fastener to be clipped to the edge of the sheets by bending it around the edge of each sheet of the pile

On entoure d'empilages reflecteurs et isolants le corps de reacteurs nucleaires et les tuyauteries associees pour minimiser les pertes de chaleur et de radiations. Ces empilages sont formes de minces feuilles espacees, en aluminium ou acier inoxydable. On emboite ensuite les feuilles espacees entre des coques interieure et exterieure, plus epaisses et plus solides. Les empilages flanques de coques ont en general une forme epousant celle du reacteur et des canalisations associees. [en] Measurements of some product quantum yields from the photolysis of 1,3-dichlorotetrafluoroacetone in the presence of oxygen have been done. An investigation of the flash photolysis of ketene, using time resolved mass spectrometry to monitor intermediates and products, has been initiated. A re-design of the apparatus for flash photolysis with time resolved mass spectrometry has been accomplished, and construction of components nearly completed. The modifications will permit a gain of about 103 in detection sensitivity. An apparatus for highly sensitive detection of laser excited luminescence has been built

[en] Progress reports are presented for the following research topics: reaction of chlorofluoromethyl radicals, CF2Cl, with O2; kinetics of highly vibrational excited molecules; kinetics of CH2(1B1) reactions; and flash photolysis with time resolved mass spectroscopy. Some of the highlights are: (1) information on the mechanism of the reaction of CF2Cl radicals has been obtained, including evidence that CF2ClO radicals can oxidize CO; (2) CF2Cl radicals were produced by photooxidation of 1,3-dichlorotetrafluoroacetone (DTA) at 313 nm; (3) investigation of the DTA-O2 photolysis system using flash spectroscopy continued and observations are summarized; (4) results from laser flash photolysis-absorption spectroscopy show that collisional deactivation of toluene, ethylcycloheptatriene and isopropylcycloheptatriene occurs by removal of relatively small amounts of energy; (5) flashlamp pumped dye laser was used as a 400 nm excitation source to photolyze diazomethane, CH2N2. The photon energy was sufficient to produce the second excited state of methylene, CH2(1B1)

AbstractAbstract
[en] The kinetics of alkylcyclopropanes, chemically activated to energies at least 40 kcal/mol above their decomposition or isomerization thresholds, have been investigated at low pressures in the presence of large, polyatomic bath gases. The homologous series cyclopropane, methylcyclopropane, and ethylcyclopropane has been examined. The activated molecules were formed by the room temperature photolysis of ketene in the presence of appropriate 1-alkenes, C5 or C6 alkanes, and oxygen. The ratio of isomerization rate to collisional stabilization rate, D/S, was measured for each activated molecule as a function of pressure. All data plots of D/S vs. reciprocal collision frequency were concave upward, indicating multistep collisional deactivation. Using Rice--Ramsparger--Kanel--Marcus theory and a stepladder deactivation scheme the experimental data were adequately fit by computer models. The collisional energy transfer results are discussed and compared with earlier results on activated alkylcyclobutanes and other chemical activation systems. Evidence for a dependence of collisional deactivation stepsize on size of chemically activated species is presented
