AbstractAbstract
[en] The feasibility of preparing [51Cr]-MAA was investigated using an MAA cold kit and commercially available sodium [51Cr]chromate solutions. Of different conditions tested, the best required an addition of a low level of sodium dithionite to achieve a radiolabeling efficiency of 44%. The product was purified by centrifugation to give [51Cr]-MAA with 99 ± 1% radiochemical purity (RCP) comprised of >94% radioactive particles >10 μm, and resulted in a rat biodistribution with >80% in the lungs. [51Cr]-MAA is inexpensive, easily and conveniently prepared by this procedure

AbstractAbstract
[en] A case report is presented of a 10-yr-old boy with restless movements and deteriorated mental ability. A brain scan was performed using /sup 99m/Tc pertechnetate. A faint area of uptake appeared; 6 months later the brain scan showed more intense uptake and neurologic symptoms increased; the patient died soon after and autopsy showed leukodystrophy of the brain and adrenal atrophy. A study of previous cases indicates that adrenal leukodystrophy is a sex-linked hereditary disease in which progressive demyelination leads to dementia, cortical blindness, and spasticity. In all reported cases abnormal areas on the brain scan corresponded with pathologic changes

AbstractAbstract
[en] Tc-99m is a preferred agent for nuclear imaging. Tc-99m tertiary butyl isonitrile (Tc-99m-TBI) is the first of a family of lipophilic cations which allow effective imaging of the human myocardium. Twenty-one patients scheduled for coronary angiography for the investigation of their chest pain were studied after injections of this tracer given during exercise, and on a separate visit, at rest. Despite high uptake in the liver and transiently in the lungs, high quality gated images were obtained allowing the assessment of both myocardial uptake and wall motion. The findings corresponded closely with angiographic and ventriculographic assessment of coronary artery disease and myocardial infarction. Redistribution of Tc-99m-TBI was shown to occur in ischemic myocardium analogous to that occurring with thallium-201 (Tl-201). Similar agents with more favourable properties may well replace Tl-201 as the myocardial imaging agent of choice in the near future
