AbstractAbstract
[en] Worldwide, many existing accelerator facilities were upgraded to RIB facilities in the past decade including two tandem accelerator facilities at HRIBF,ORNL and LNS, Catania. However, both these tandems are folded tandems with the injector at ground level. In this paper, we explore the feasibility of using aerosol He-jet technique to transport RIBs from driver accelerator to the SNICS ion source. As a test case, we take a 50 MeV, 100- k watt commercial electron accelerator as driver accelerator and the existing Tandem+SC linac at IUAC as post accelerator. In this scheme, RIBs can be produced in Uranium target using Bremsstrahlung photons generated by the de-accelerated electrons. In a broad sense, two main difference in implementing this scheme compared to will be the high power target and a skimmer ion source operable at high throughput of aerosol loaded He. A multijet target system capable of containing few dozen target had been developed and tested for efficiency and cooling at HRIBF,ORNL. A skimmer ion source, operable at 6 std. 1pm flow is still needed to be developed. If this development is carried out, negative ion scheme is feasible and could possibly be implemented in a short period of time with modest investment. (author)

AbstractAbstract
[en] At IUAC, New Delhi we have implemented a facility to produce low energy light radio-active ion beams (RIBs) using (p,n) type of reactions in inverse kinematics. For this purpose primary beams from the 15-UD tandem accelerator was impinged on thin polypropylene foil mounted on a rotating/linearly moving target assembly. Using this facility, 7Be beam was extracted/utilized in experiments in the energy range of 15-22 MeV. Typical beam parameters are: intensity 104 pps, angular spread ±30 mrad and energy spread ±0.5 MeV. Development of appropriate detector setup/target arrangement were also made to perform these experiments. Details about technical development and experiments carried out can be found. We are also considering the option of an advanced ISOL (Isotope Separator Online) facility for neutron rich radioactive ion beams at our accelerator facility. For this purpose photo fission method utilizing an electron accelerator as the driver accelerator seems to be suitable to meet our requirements. Pioneering R and D for technical evaluation of electro fission was carried out at Holifield Radioactive Beam Facility (HRIBF) at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, USA. In this paper we will briefly describe both the existing in flight facility and also the adoption of photo fission scheme as a possible upgrade of our accelerator system. (author)

AbstractAbstract
[en] For obtaining beams of higher energies, some of the existing single ended Van de Graaff accelerators have been converted into folded tandem machines. Such a conversion requires a 180 deg bending device at the high-voltage terminal to serve as injector to the high-energy section. Magnetic dipoles are usually employed in such machines despite many serious difficulties. As an alternative, the possibility of an electrostatic deflector has been proposed as a suitable injector to the high energy section of small machines. Such a choice eliminates many of the difficulties and also results in an improved ion optics and beam transmission. (author). 7 refs., 2 figs., 1 tab

AbstractAbstract
[en] During the last decade there has been considerable effort worldwide for development of Radioactive Ion Beams (RIBs) as well as doing experiments using these beams. New interesting phenomenon like halo nuclei, violation of shell model in neutron rich isotopes etc. have been discovered. Many important cross-sections of nuclear astrophysics were also measured. Depending upon the method of production of RIB, such facilities can be divided into three categories, namely, Projectile Fragmentation facility, ISOL facility and In-flight facility
