AbstractAbstract
[en] Kinetics of scintillator luminescence under excitation by electron subnanosecond pulses is studied. Studied CsI, CsI-Tl, KI, KI-Tl, NaI-Tl monocrystals were irradiated by single pulses of high-current electron accelerator (energy of 450 keV, pulse length at half-height 50 ps, current density of a sample 100 A/cm2). Time resolution under experimental conditions is 10 ps. It is shown that in kinetics of increase of alkali-halogen scintillator luminescence in excitation by ∼ 50ps electron pulses recombination processes both with participation of free charge carriers and intermediate charge carrier trapping are manifested

AbstractAbstract
[en] Considering the scintillation mechanism in the NaI-Tl crystal which is widely used for nuclear radiation monitoring, the activation energy value for thermally activated motion of Vsub(k)-centres, as well as that for Tl0-centre decay have been found by the pulse absorption spectroscopy method. Lifetimes of Vsub(k)- and Tl0-centres produced in NaI-Tl by 5 MeV electron pulse irradiation have been studied. The activation energy value for Vsub(k)-centre migration is 0.090+-0.005 eV in the 65-130 K temperature range. The activation energy value for Tl0-centre decay measured in the 150-200 K temperature range is 0.35+-0.03 eV. Recombination of electrons released by Tl0- centre destruction with Tl++-centres is shown to be of a bimolecular nature

AbstractAbstract
[en] Radiation stable materials for nuclear and cosmic technique and technology need wide-scale investigations on radiation effect upon matter. For alkali halides application of the absorption spectroscopy technique (time resolution of 10-9s) allows to detect some mechanisms of hole motion (hot hole motion, jump diffusion and thermally activated VK-centre dissociation) and to distinguish the dominant ones among them for various temperature ranges. Relaxation kinetics of optical absorption for electron pulse induced centres (F and H) has evinced a decisive role of the potentia shift mechanism in short-lived F-H pair formation and the dissociation mechanism - in stable pair formation. Temperature and homologous impurity effects upon the intensity of radiation colouring have been revealed. By comparison of luminescence relaxation kinetics to optical absorption of VK, Tl0, Tl2+ colour centres, the contribution of various energy transfer mechanisms to scintillation pulse formation has been evaluated for alkali halide scintillators. For ionic crystals, coinciding components of optical absorption kinetics relaxaton both for self-trapped excitons and short-lived F-H pairs give experimental evidence to ''radiation shaking'' hypothesis

AbstractAbstract
[en] To study the scintillation process, CsI-Na crystal was irradiated with 5 MeV electron pulses. Activation luminescence and absorption band relaxation of Vsub(k)- and Na0-centres have been studied. For hole motion at 100-300 K the obtained activation energy value is 0.20+-0.02 eV. The scintillation process in CsI-Na is shown to be caused by Vsub(k)-centres reorientation kinetics, and holes are proved to basically recombine with Na0- centres and not to migrate to the activator

AbstractAbstract
[en] Activator luminescence is estimated in the temperature range of 80-300 K for KY-Tl crystal irradiated by 300 keV electron pulses. Experimental data are obtained from pulse absorption and luminescence spectroscopy with time resolution. There evaluated mechanisms: of electron and hole recombination luminescence, excitationly excitons reabsorption of autolocalized electron singlet luminescence by the activator, and thermoactivated dissociation of pre-exciton state leading to extra energy storage on ctivator centres. The contribution of these mechanisms to the luminescence impulse is presented as temperature dependent

AbstractAbstract
[en] Consideration is given to results of investigation of UV luminescence of CsI under subnanosecond electron pulse (50 ns, 0.25 MeV, 100 A/cm2) excitation. The obtained results enable to conclude, that creation of state, responsible for observed UV luminescence, proceeds by nonrecombination way, that is not in result of electron capture on the hole, autolocalized or localized on some defect

AbstractAbstract
[en] The mechanism of short-living transitional α-Al2O3 absorption was studied. Kinetics of absorption induced in α-Al2O3 by an electron pulse (50 ns, 450 keV, ∼ 100 A/cm2) was measured. It is shown that within 10-11-10-9 s time interval the main contribution into absorption spectrum is made by intrazone absorption on thermal gaps, conditioned by direct electron transitions between the valent zone branches

AbstractAbstract
[en] For CsI exposed to electron pulses of about 50 ps at 300 K an inertial growth of the F-centre absorption in the course of time (up to 200 ps) has been detected. The growth is associated with the zone-electron and Vk-centre-recombination kinetics. The cross section for the electron capture by the self-trapped hole has been evaluated
