AbstractAbstract
[en] A process for controlling operation of a nuclear reactor is described in which first control means is operated to cause reactor power to rise to a level at which a pellet-clad-mechanical-interaction begins to take place between a cladding and pellets of a fuel element. After interrupting the operation of the first control means, second control means is operated to cause the reactor power to rise to a preset level, the second control means being capable of effecting finer control of the reactor power than the first control means. When the reactor power deviates from the preset level with the progress of the reactor operation in the preset level, the second control means is operated so as to maintain the reactor power at the preset level

AbstractAbstract
[en] Bacterio-opsin (bO), the integral membrane protein from H. halobium, has been expressed in E. coli in 3 forms. I, native sequence (bO) with additional N-terminal methionine; II, bO with N-terminal E. coli OmpA signal sequence that is not cleaved by signal peptidase on expression; III, bO fused with the following 35 amino acids sequence at the N-terminus: the E. coli lipoprotein signal sequence followed by N-terminal 8 amino acids of the lipoprotein and 5 amino acids from a linker sequence. The lipoprotein signal sequence in III is partially cleaved by signal peptidase II to give IIIA (processed) and IIIB (unprocessed). Studies on the location of the above proteins in E. coli cells and their folding to functional three-dimensional structure have given the following results: 1, the proteins are largely present in the total membrane fraction; 2, proteins I, II and IIIB are present in both the cytoplasmic and the outer membranes, while IIIA is exclusively in the cytoplasmic membrane; 3, the three proteins bind [3H]-all-trans-retinal to different extents. Retinal is attached at Lys-216 as in native bO, as shown by BrCN cleavage after reducing the Schiff's base with NaBH4, However, the extents of folding of the proteins to the correct three-dimensional structure vary, the protein IIIA binds retinal most efficiently (20-40%

AbstractAbstract
[en] The YBa2Cu3O7 films were prepared on polycrystalline {1 1 0}<1 1 0> textured Ag substrates without any buffer layers using a MOD (metal organic deposition) method in various heat treatment condition. The Y:Ba:Cu cation ratio of the precursor solution was 1:2.6:4.5 molar ratio. The deficient of a Cu element was observed in the films prepared under a low oxygen partial pressure (p(O2)=0.0002 atm). The amount of Cu element was decreased with increasing the annealing temperature. From X-ray pole figure measurements, we confirmed a weak biaxial crystal orientation in the YBCO films prepared on a {1 1 0}<1 1 0> textured polycrystalline Ag substrates at 900 deg. C for 2.5 h in air. On the polycrystalline {1 1 0}<1 1 0> textured Ag substrates, the observed epitaxial relationship with YBCO lattice is <1 1 0> YBCO parallel <1 1 0> Ag

AbstractAbstract
[en] NdBa2Cu3O7 (Nd-123) and YBa2Cu3O7 (Y-123) films were fabricated on {1 0 0}<0 0 1> or {1 1 0}<1 1 0> textured Ag tapes by a pulsed laser deposition technique and a metal organic decomposition method using metal naphthenates solution. Good biaxial crystal orientations were achieved in the Nd-123 films prepared on the {1 0 0}<0 0 1> textured Ag tapes by the laser deposition technique. Biaxially oriented Y-123 films were also obtained on the {1 1 0}<1 1 0> textured Ag tapes by the pulsed laser deposition technique and a metal organic decomposition method. We obtained the prospect that the high deposition rate and the thickening the film will solve both the groove problem and the Cu diffusion problem when the textured Ag tapes were used as substrates for coated conductors

AbstractAbstract
[en] Textured Ag tape is one of the most ideal substrates for the next generation high-Tc wires operable in liquid nitrogen. {1 1 0}<1 1 0> textured Ag tapes were obtained by cold rolling and subsequent heat treatments. The texture of the tape after cold rolling (before annealing) was typical 'brass type'. For obtaining the {1 1 0}<1 1 0> texture, oxygen should exist in the Ag tape during the heat treatment. We find a two-step annealing is very effective to achieve the better {1 1 0}<1 1 0> textured Ag tape, compared with the samples annealed in one-step; the better grain alignment and the smoother surface could be obtained. Moreover, 300 deg. C annealing in O2 atmosphere allow us to obtain the {1 1 0}<1 1 0> texture by only 3 min final heat treatment at around 800 deg. C. This is beneficial to achieve the higher production speed of YBa2Cu3O7 coated conductors

AbstractAbstract
[en] A case of thoracic myelopathy due to ossification of the ligamentum flavum is presented. A fifty-five year old female complained of sensory and motor disturbance of lower limbs. Neuroradiologically, in addition to ossification of the posterior longitudinal ligament throughout the spines, ossified ligamenta flava were found at the Th10-11 level, and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) clearly showed the spinal cord compressed at the same level by a low-intensity-signal lesion. Laminectomy and removal of the ossified ligamenta flava improved her neurological dysfunction. The usefulness of the MRI in the neuroradiological diagnosis was confirmed. (orig.)

AbstractAbstract
[en] The paper examined the neutron streaming along narrow gaps in VHTR core and in-vessel shield. Two types of gap were examined in expectation of occurring dominant streaming: withdrawn-control rod channel and hole in the hollow fuel compact. Cell calculation models were employed to represent complex streaming paths simply. Calculations were performed by using two-dimensional discrete ordinates code DOT3.5. It was made clear that serious streaming occurred and the careful shield design was required. (author)

AbstractAbstract
[en] Neutron capture cross sections of 93Nb, Ag, 127I, 165Ho, 197Au and 238U were measured near 24 keV using the Fe-filtered-beam method. A 15-cm thick Fe filter was placed in the neutron time-of-flight beam produced by the KUR 46-MeV electron Linac. Capture γ-rays were detected by two C6F6 total energy detectors located on a 12-m flight path. Pulse-height weighting was used to determine the relative capture efficiency. The neutron flux was determined with the detector via the 10B(n,α1γ) reaction and saturated resonance capture in Ag at 5.2 eV. Multiple scattering corrections were applied to the data, resulting in 24 keV capture cross sections of 0.33, 1.10, 0.76, 1.26, 0.68 and 0.50 barns for 93Nb, Ag, 127I, 165Ho, 197Au and 238U, respectively. Total errors are 5 to 7 percent, with an estimated systematic error of 4 percent. 2 tables, 3 figures
