AbstractAbstract
[en] X-ray diffraction method is applied to study the structure of liquid naphthalene. The main sources of errors are discussed. A numerical analysis is performed of the influence of X-ray data termination on the electron - density radial - distribution functions (EDRDF) and on interatomic distances and coordination numbers determined from these functions. The interatomic distances determined from the EDRDF are shown to be practically independent of the termination angle. A strong dependence of coordination numbers on the termination angle, observed by other authors, is confirmed. Structural analysis of liquid naphthalene C10 H8 by X-ray monochromatic radiation scattering method is given. The X-ray measurements were made at 368K for the scattering angle range Θ varied from 20 to 600. The EDRDF maxima at 0.380, 0.455, 0.535, and 0.625 nm correspond to the intermolecular interactions. The integrals over made it possible to determine the value of the mean coordination numbers 1.36, 2.06, 2.37, and 2.76, respectively. A possibility of comparing coordination numbers obtained in different laboratories for liquids is discussed (Authors)

AbstractAbstract
[en] The structure of methylcyclohexane C6H11-CH3 at 293 K was investigated using the X-ray diffraction method. An angular distribution of X-ray radiation scattered in liquid methylcyclohexane was measured. The observable range of scattering angles was 6o ≤ 2θ ≤ 120o. Monochromatic radiation Mo Kα enabled determination of the scattered intensity between Smin = 0.92 A-1 and Smax = 15.313 A-1. The differential radial distribution function of electron density was calculated. The mean structural parameters of liquid methylcyclohexane (inter- and intramolecular distances, radii of coordination spheres, and packing coefficient) were determined and discussed. The most probable binary radial correlation of molecules in liquid methylcyclohexane was proposed. The approach proposed in this paper gives a good description of intermolecular interactions in liquids and is a useful X-ray method for their analysis. The paper presents the structure and molecular correlations in liquid methylcyclohexane determined for the first time by the X-ray diffraction method. The study of methylcyclohexane is a continuation of our studies of cyclohexane derivatives cyclohexylamine and 2-methylcyclohexane. The aim of the study was to establish a relation between the cis and trans isomers and the conformation of the cyclohexane derivatives in the liquid phase. (author)

AbstractAbstract
[en] The paper reports results of the X-ray diffraction structural studies of liquid 1-phenyl naphthalene, C10H7 - C6H5 at 338 K, with the use of MoKα radiation of the wavelength λ = 0.071069 nm. The curves of reduced radiation intensity were analysed by the reduction method of Blum and Narten. Experimental distributions of X-ray scattered intensity were compared with theoretical results predicted by the proposed model of 1-phenyl naphthalene molecule. (author)
