AbstractAbstract
[en] The free neutron-proton elastic differential cross-section has been measured at neutron beam energies of 212 and 418 MeV. The experiment determined the angular distribution over the range 15 degrees - 180 degrees (CM) in two segments, having the same overall normalization. The 15 degrees - 90 degrees range was measured by detecting scattered neutrons in a scintillator into the direct neutron beam. Energy selection was made via a time of flight (TOF) measurement relative to the TRIUMF cyclotron RF. The remainder of the angular distribution was obtained by detecting the scattered protons in a magnetic spectrometer. Proton selection was made using the TOF through the spectrometer and the momentum. Energy selection was made via the RF TOF. Normalization was provided by the same monitors distribution. The normalization of dσ/dω has been determined to about 3%, with statistical accuracies of about 1-3% on the individual data points. These data have been included in a phase shift analysis together with all world data, showing an improvement in the energy dependence of the differential cross section near 0 degrees CM and in the phase shifts, notably antiε3. Together with the previously measured Wolfenstein parameters, unambiguous phase shifts in the I=0 system are obtained for the first time in the TRIUMF energy range

[en] A precise measurement of the left-right cross section asymmetry (ALR) for Z boson production by e+e- collisions has been performed at the SLAC Linear Collider with the SLD detector. Data for the 1993 run, with its significant improvements in luminosity and electron beam polarization, are presented. When combined with the (less precise) 1992 result, the preliminary result for the effective weak mixing angle is sin2 θWeff = 0.2290 ± 0.0010

[en] The GLAST Large Area telescope is a modular 4 x 4 tower pair conversion telescope with field of view greater than 2 steradians and energy coverage from 20 MeV to 300 GeV. The observatory is scheduled for launch in September 2006. A status of the instrument construction is presented here

AbstractAbstract
[en] The agreement between calculated and measured lanthanide induced shifts for the 2 : 1 pyridine (py), 4-picoline (4-pic) and 3,5-lutidine (3,5-lut) adducts of Eu(thd)3 at both ambient and low temperatures using the full two-term dipolar shift equation has been examined as a function of Ln-N distance. It is found that the agreement factor is of limited sensitivity as a function of the Ln-N distance. These results question the validity of Ln-S distances determined exclusively using the single term McConnell-Robertson equation for calculating LIS. (author)

AbstractAbstract
[en] Rb, Ab and the lifetimes of the B+ (Bu) and B0 (Bd) mesons have been measured using a sample of 150 000 hadronic Z0 decays collected by the SLD experiment at the SLC between 1993 and 1995. The analyses make use of a novel topological vertexing technique to obtain charge, decay length and vertex mass. The asymmetry Ab is measured with a self-calibrating technique employing momentum-weighted track charge from both hemispheres in the tagged events as well as by using the polar angle dependency of the Z0-pole polarized cross section and tagging the bottom and charmed hadrons in the semileptonic decay channel. [en] When a highly-charged fast projectile collides with a neutral atom in a gaseous target it may, in a single collision, remove many electrons from the target while transferring no more than a few ev to the target's center of mass. These low-energy highly-charged (LEHQ) recoils may be extracted for use as a secondary ion beam to study subsequent capture reactions in a second gas target. A LEHQ ion source based on this principle, pumped by 1-2 Mev/amu beams of F, S and Cl has been developed. A discussion is provided of 1) the properties of the ion source, and 2) cross sections measured with the source for single and multiple electron capture by Ar/sup +q/ from Ne for 2< q<10 and Ar energies between 200 and 1000 ev per q. 13 refs
