AbstractAbstract
[en] Any radiation detector may be use as a neutron detector if its contains or can be complemented by a material giving a conversion process which transfers the information of interest to charged particle. Thus the recoil nucleus in a neutron scattering, the reaction products in a nuclear reaction, the fission fragments in a nuclear fission or the gamma-ray emission in a neutron capture, may be use for the detection of the primary neutron. This makes neutron detection as one of the most complicated technic encountered in nuclear physics. We will present the desired characteristics of neutron detectors in the thermal and fast energy domains. The performance and properties of organic scintillators for neutron detection will be summarized. We will present the general description and the technical properties of neutron detectors such as: the multidetector DEMON and the 4π detector ORION. Their respective advantages and disadvantages will be confronted. (authors)

AbstractAbstract
[en] Lifetimes of the first 2+, 4+ and 6+ and 6 levels in 170W have been measured by the recoil-distance method based on the Doppler effect, using the 155Gd (20Ne, 5n) 170W reaction. The following conclusions can be drawn from the results: if there are any deviations from the predictions of the rotational model for the lifetimes of the 4+ and 6+ states, they are smaller than 7%: if this model accurately describes the nucleus 170W, the intrinsic quadrupole moment of this nucleus is: Q0 = 5.93 +- 0.06 barns, and its deformation is: B = 0.240 +- 0.003. The value of Q0 is compared with the predictions of various calculations for the tungsten isotopes. (orig.)
